Like most successful companies, Dow Chemical is always looking for what will help continue that success in the future. That future was on display Thursday night at Abbeville High School, as 31 middle school students from around Vermilion Parish competed in the second Dow Vermilion Parish You Be the Chemist Challenge.

Rep. Blake Miguez is not in love with the idea that Gov. John Bel Edwards has come up with as a way to balance the state budget. One of Gov. Edward’s plan is to increase the state’s 4-cent sales tax by a penny, and bring in $216 million more for the fiscal year that ends June 30.

Some communities around Acadiana will go without Mardi Gras parades this year. Kaplan will not be among them. The Krewe Chic-A-La-Pie parade will roll this Tuesday for Mardi Gras as it always has. The parade is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start.
