A couple of days before hurricane season begins, Rep. Bob Hensgens introduced a bill that urges the state’s Department of Transportation and Development to do a study on the emergency evacuation route to Hwy. 35 that connects with Hwy. 92, near Rayne.

There is no slowing down for the Vermilion Parish Honor Guard of Kaplan American Legion Post 271. Since 1988, the Honor Guard has been busy performing funerals for veterans and other civic ceremonies, including Monday’s Memorial Day Ceremonies. In the last 27 years, they have now performed 1,560 funerals.

The Daylily Festival will begin Saturday morning in Abbeville.

Magdalen Square in downtown Abbeville will be alive with color Saturday morning with the arrival of the 14th Annual Daylily Festival and Garden Show. The event will kickoff at 8:30 a.m. and will run until 3 p.m. There will not be an opportunity for early bird shopping.

Charges upgraded in connection to death

Charges have formally been upgraded for four men allegedly involved in the robbery and beating of Rickey Picard Jr. in early April.

Gueydan High Graduation

Kaneon Dupuis was chosen as one of the recipient of the Gueydan Chamber of Commerce Scholarships presented by Beverly Baker, Scholarship Chairman. The Gueydan High School Graduation was held on Thursday, May 14 at 7 p.m. at the Bill Searle Gymnasium.

Shelby Mouton crowned Miss Gueydan

Shelby Mouton was crowned the 2015 Miss Gueydan on Saturday, May 9, 2015 at the Gueydan High School Auditorium. She is a sophomore at Gueydan High School.
