LEROY — When it became clear that construction of the new North Vermilion Middle School would not be ready for the Aug. 11 start of school, what to do with the more than 1,000 students who would be affected became the top priority.

Hoat and Nga Kieu

Supporters and friends helped organize a blood drive to help the Kieu family on July 12. Hoat Kieu had been hospitalized earlier this year. The results proved more positive than anyone could have hoped.

Police are looking for a Toyota Tacoma that is believed to be involved in the Youngsville abduction attempts.

Youngsville police responded Sunday afternoon to a call of an attempted child abduction. It is the second such incident reported by Youngsville residents in less than a week.

Construction is still being done at North Vermilion Middle with three weeks to go before school begins.

North Vermilion Middle School parents and students learned Tuesday night that their brand new middle school will not be ready in time for when school starts on Aug. 11 in Vermilion Parish.
