Monday morning Vermilion Parish residents had to deal with a fast moving storm that caused some damage throughout the parish. Residents west of North Vermilion High School are expected to be without power for the rest of day.
According to the Vermilion Parish School Superintendent Jerome Puyau, Cecil Picard Elementary will be closing at noon today because of partial electricity in the school. The phone announcement to all Cecil Picard parents is expected to go out anytime.

LEROY- The North Vermilion Lady Patriots advanced to the second round of the Class 3A softball playoffs after a 6-2 win at home against Church Point Tuesday.


Pat and Becky Donuhue’s garden displays brilliant red knock-out roses bordering the front and side of the lovely 1898 Victorian home. Pink drift roses and miniature bottlebrush shrubs showcase the brick circular drive and entrance.


The beautifully landscaped courtyard is highlighted with a lovely pool as well as a covered patio and outdoor kitchen featuring a pond complete with comment fish and water lilies surrounded by colorful tropical hibiscus, bougainvilleas, and bird of paradise plants.


Other plants featured in the extensive landscaping are azaleas, palm trees, Shishi camellias, yesterday, today and tomorrow shrubs, sweet bay magnolias, American holly, Japanese magnolias as well as a variety of daylilies.
