KAPLAN — A Kaplan man has been arrested and charged with six counts of distributing pornography involving juveniles, announced Attorney General Buddy Caldwell.

Next to MaxiMart in Abbeville, South Airport Road will be closed, starting next month for construction.

If you travel on South Airport Road, between La. 14 and Jacquelyn Street in Abbeville, mark on your calender Feb. 2. That is the day part of South Airport Road will close for 45 days. The section of the road that will be closed will be starting at La. 14 down to Karl Street – next to the old Villa and before the railroad track.
Starting in February, cell phones will not be allowed in courthouses in Vermilion and Acadia parishes. A court order recently was signed by Judge Marilyn Castile banning cell phones from the two courthouses. The district court in Lafayette Parish already does not allow cell phones.

Six assistant principal jobs available in Vermilion Parish

Patricia Thibodeaux is now the assistant principal at Erath High School.

The Vermilion Parish School Board is taking applications for six assistant principal positions that are open in the public schools.
Applications will be taken until May 14 at noon.

Fire destroys Kaplan home - family desperate for help

A fire at 606 E. Second Street in Kaplan completely gutted the home of this Kaplan family last week.

A Kaplan family lost everything in a fire at the home they were renting at 606 East Second Street in Kaplan last week.



Logan Goutierrez of Erath came off the bench and hit some big shots, including the game-winner with 14 seconds left.


Monette Bolden had 13 points in the win for Erath.
