The Lady Eagles of VC are heading back to the Sweet 16 after knocking off St. Mary 41-30 Saturday afternoon. VC will play Tuesday night at 7:45 against White Castle in the semifinal game. The games are being held at McNeese University in Lake Charles.

FORKED ISLAND — Forked Island E. Broussard Principal Patricia Gaspard received an e-mail Monday that she had to read twice. The e-mail originated from the Louisiana Department of Education.

Friday morning around 10:30, Regina Lacour of Abbeville was heading north on La. 82, when for unknown reasons, she went off the road and flipped in a ditch. The single car accident occurred on Schreifer's Curve, which is about a mile south of Perry.

Lightning strikes tree in Kaplan

Lightning struck a tree causing a large portion of the tree to fall on a house in Kaplan during a thunderstorm Tuesday morning. No injuries were reported with minor damages to the home's roof. The house is located at 213 N. Guidry in Kaplan.
