Kaplan Police Chief Boyd Adams reported officers responded to a shooting at Eighth and Frederick Streets last night. Upon arrival, officers learned two victims recieved gun shot wounds. The male victim is hospitalized and awaiting surgery and the other was a 16 year old female who was treated and released.

Kaplan Police investigated allegations of improper contact between a Kaplan High School teacher and a student. Alex Hilliard, 26, of Lafayette, was arrested and charged with three counts of felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile. He is an award-winning band director and an assistant baseball coach at the school.

This past fall, Dozier submitted a proposal for technology resources to be used by the students to the Erath 4th of July Association. Recently, Erath 4th of July Association President Robert B. Vincent and board members were on hand to present the grant money awarded for the submitted proposal. In the past five years, the group has donated a total of $10,700 toward Dozier Elementary’s “Eye on Tech” campaign. A week later the grass is still burnt where the SUV was located on fire on Claude Road. The fire occurred about 50 yards from a house.

The Vermilion Parish Sheriff ‘s Department is slowly trying to piece together what occurred last week on Claude Road, a mile south of North Vermilion High School.
