North Vermilion Middle School parents and students learned Tuesday night that their brand new middle school will not be ready in time for when school starts on Aug. 11 in Vermilion Parish.

Five months after being hit by a car, Billy Mire has died. Mire, 63, of Kaplan, was hit when he was truck by an oncoming car at the corner of Highway 14 and Lemaire Street in February.
The possibility of installing a turning lane where Pirate Lane meets up with Highway 14 was discussed at the regular meeting of the Kaplan City Council.
