the Saint Matthew Missionary Baptist congregation was recently given a farewell luncheon at the vestry with approximately 50 members in attendance.

Rev. Rhodes served St. Matthew Church for ten years. He is leaving St. Matthew to continue his ministering in Afghanistan as a Chaplain.

The services began with the opening hymn “We’ve Come This Far By Faith” immediately followed by a meet and greet. Along with the farewell to Rev. Rhodes a Baccalaureate Service was held for three local seniors, Rico Rubin, Khadon Wilson and Darien Attkins.

Ollie Williams began the services with a special reading encouraging the young men to strive forward and to be the best at whatever the are.

Rhodes presented all three with medals and scholarships from the church.

Rhodes, will travel to his destination by the request of the Department of Defense and as in his past duties, he will once again be a Chaplain.

He described the support from his congregation as “amazing.” He stated that he was truly blessed to have served at Saint Matthew Missionary Baptist Church.
