Abbeville swept Franklin twice on Tuesday, bumping their record to 5-7 for the season. And with district underway, a 2-0 is one of the best starts in recent memory.
“Our ultimate goal is to make it to the playoffs,” coach Rod Moy said. “A win like this puts us in a good position. Now, we have to focus on the better teams in our district, like Kaplan and North Vermilion.”
In the first game, the Lady Cats picked up a run in the first inning and 15 in the second. The mercy rule was applied after Franklin went scoreless through the third inning.
In the follow-up, Abbeville scored nine runs in the first inning, and three runs apiece in the second and third. The mercy rule was applied again as Franklin was shut out a second time.
Emily Schexnayder was the winning pitcher for both games, pitching all six innings. In the first game, she struck out five batters.
Leading the way in hitting was Caitlyn Hebert, who went 3-3 with four runs scored. Alexis Frederick was 2-2 at the plate with a triple, five scored runs and four RBIs.
The next game is Thursday, when the Lady Cats take on the Kaplan Lady Pirates in Kaplan.
