Each week the Abbeville Meridional will highlight a softball or baseball player from the parish. This week it is Emily Lege, an 11 year old who played softball for an 11-12 year old Abbeville softball team in QSA League. She is the daughter of Duane and Courtney Lege of Abbeville.

What have you been doing to stay busy this summer?

I have been attending a few summer camps, like Blue Ribbon Camp, and soon I will be at dance camp at Dance Connection.

How many years have you been playing softball? Do you like it?

Two years and I love it.

Why do you like playing third base?

Because I think I can throw better from that angle, to first base, second base and home plate. Also, because I get involved in the action almost every pitch.

Has being in dance helped you with softball?

Yes, because it helps my agility and reflexes and also my coordination.

If you had a choice to attend one, which one would you select? A famous musical in New York or a softball game during the Olympics?

That is a hard question to answer. It depends on where the Olympics are being held, but right now, I do not really know.

What other sports do you like to play?

Only basketball.

How has sports made you a better person?

It teaches you that hard work pays off.

Do you feel like girls can do anything boys can do?

Oh, Yeah!

I hear you like to draw. What age did you discover you had talent?

Five years old

Could you design your team’s shirts if they asked you to? What ideas would you have?

Yes. I would put a flaming softball on the back and just the name of the team on the front.

Who is the better athlete, your mom or dad?

My dad, for sure.
