Do you enjoy getting to know new people, traveling with friends, serving your community, and having a great time? Then I have the perfect opportunity for you – Join the 4-H Jr. Leader Club.

The Vermilion Parish 4-H Jr. Leader Club is open to 8th through 12th grade students in the parish who are currently enrolled in 4-H. The monthly meetings of the club are held on the 2nd Thursday of each month at 6:30 pm in the parish 4-H office. The club has guest speakers and activities at the meetings focusing on the service learning project.

This year the club has chosen to focus their service learning project on Senior Citizens and the theme is Connecting Generations. Members will have the opportunity to adopt a “grandparent” at nursing home facilities in the parish and plan and conduct events for the residents. In the spring of 2013 selected members of the club will travel to Orlando, Florida to complete a project with the Seniors First Organization. Families will be identified and the Jr. Leader Club will assist them in painting their homes and as a special treat the club will enjoy Universal Studios during their stay.

The first meeting of the Jr. Leader Club was held on Thursday, September 13, 2012, and the guest speaker was Mrs. Danielle Suire the Activity Director from the Kaplan Nursing Home.

For the first meeting the officers dressed up as elderly residents to engage the members of the club and encourage them to Get Involved – Join the Jr. Leader Club Today.
