Rene Rost Middle going to remote learning

Kaplan school considered COVID hot spot

Students at Rene Rost Middle School in Kaplan will participate in remote learning for the remainder of this week.
That is ahead of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday on Monday when students will already be off school.
Vermilion Parish School Superintendent Tommy Byler announced Wednesday afternoon that the move is part of the school systems COVID-19 protocols.
“Using our guidelines for data,” Byler said, “we will be moving to a remote learning model for Rene Rost Middle School on Thursday and Friday.”
Earlier in the week, the superintendent said two schools were deemed hot spots due to the amount of COVID cases. Rene Rost Middle was one of the two schools.
School officials sent information to parents and guardians of Rene Rost students.
Cleaning efforts will take place while the students are away.
“We will be doing a professional COVID cleaning during this time as well,” Byler said.
Coupled with the upcoming holiday, the move to remote learning allows more time for COVID numbers at the school to improve.
“While the numbers have slightly improved during the week,” Byler said. “We will combine this remote opportunity with the three-day holiday weekend to help get the numbers back in a better position. While we know this may be an inconvenience, we are making decisions based on the number of students and teachers affected.
“Thank you for your understanding, and we will see all students on Tuesday.”
