Lee is new assistant principal at Vermilion Catholic

Vermilion Catholic, a legacy of Mount Carmel, is excited to announce it has named Lauryn Lee as assistant principal of its Pre-K through 8th grade. Vermilion Catholic previously announced in January the acquisition and integration of Mount Carmel School of Abbeville forming the only Pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade Catholic School in the lower Acadiana region.
Under the leadership of Michael Guilbeaux, principal of Vermilion Catholic, . Lee will be responsible for the day-to-day operations and comprehensive academic program of the elementary and middle school grade levels.

Erath High going virtual due to COVID-19

Because of seven positive COVID-19 tests, Erath High School has to go virtual.
On Wednesday, Erath High School learned there were seven positive COVID-19 cases on the campus.
EHS Principal Marc Turner did not release information on who were the seven who tested positive, but the Abbeville Meridional has learned it was a combo of students and teachers.
On Wednesday, 95 students and teachers were quarantined for 14 days due to contact tracing.

Erath's Robert Vincent passes away

ERATH — A considerable part of the Erath community passed away on Thursday.
Robert Vincent lost his 30-year battled with degenerative nerve disease known as Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disorder (CMT).
“It was my life as it was,” the Erath native told the Daily Iberian of his diagnosis and prognosis during an interview in January of this year.
“I asked myself early on, ‘With this disability, what can I accomplish?’ I was never going to be a sports star, but there were so many other things I could accomplish.”

Parts of Vermilion Parish now under mandatory evacuation

Parts of Vermilion Parish are now under a mandatory evacuation, as of 1 p.m on Wednesday.
The Police Jury ordered these areas of the parish to be evacuated:
• Pecan Island
• Intracoastal City
• Esther
• Forked Island
• Mouton Cove
• Erath (south of La. 14)
• Delcambre (south of La. 14)
• Gueydan (south of La. 14)
• and low line areas prone to flood and those who live in mobile homes in the parish.

Judge Perry

Judge Perry on new Louisiana State Supreme Court Technology Commission

New Orleans, LA – The Louisiana Supreme Court today announced the creation of the Louisiana Supreme Court Technology Commission.
A judge, who was raised in Kaplan, sits on the commission.
Kaplan resident Judge Jonathan Perry , along with Judge Susan Chehardy, represent the Louisiana Appeals Courts, on the technology commission.
“I am truly honored to be appointed by the Louisiana Supreme Court to serve on the technology commission, specifically representing the Appellate Courts,” said Judge Perry.” I will work hard to do my part.”
