After the Abbeville homecoming game against Crowley , the AHS players were making their way to the stands, near the AHS band. Then everyone heard at least five gun shots coming from behind the stadium, and the players hit the ground and the fans ran out of the stands.

Five gun shots heard right after Abbeville High football ended; no one hit

The Abbeville Wildcats did not get a chance to celebrate their homecoming win over the Crowley Gents Friday night. Instead, they were lying on the ground, worried that someone was about to enter J.H. Williams Middle School Stadium with a firearm.

Man arrested after jumping fence by North Vermilion gymnasium

On Thursday, at 8:30 a.m. Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s School Resource Officer Deputy Brooks David responded to a male subject seen jumping a fence at the North Vermilion High School near the gym. An immediate lockdown of the school was initiated.
Several units with the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Maurice Police Department were dispatched. A perimeter was set up, and a search of the school grounds located a male subject identified as Colby Clayous Mitchell (D.O.B. 01/01/1985). Mitchell was located on the school campus parking lot. He was apprehended without incident.

Abbeville High School receives active shooter hoax phone call

Around 12:20 on Thursday, the Abbeville Police Department received a phone call about an active shooter at Abbeville High School.
The complaint was deemed false, and the source is being investigated.
Abbeville High was placed on lockdown for about two hours. School buses began to arrive at AHS at 2:30 in time for school to end.
Abbeville Police Chief Mike Hadry and his officers walked through each classroom, searching for a possible shooter.
He later learned the phone call could be a national prank that had happened to other schools nationwide.
