Sometimes in high school football, having the right mindset and the willingness to fight can take a team a long way.
This was certainly the case for the Vermilion Catholic Eagles, who displayed remarkable resilience despite having only 26 players available for their game on Friday night.
Although the Eagles (12-0) were down by 22 points late in the second quarter, they pulled off an impressive comeback 39-35 win against the No. 9 Ascension Catholic team.
The Eagles’ head coach, Broc Prejean, was at a loss to explain how his team managed to turn the game around.

Vermilion Parish has elected Eddie Langlinais as its new sheriff. Langlinais, who hails from Delcambre, won the election by securing 60 percent of the votes. Lance Broussard had 40 percent.
Langlinais had 7,965 votes and Broussard had 4,971 votes.
Langlinais will take office on July 1, 2024, becoming the fourth sheriff of Vermilion Parish in the last 60 years.
During the last two decades, Mike Couvillon has served as the sheriff, while Ray LeMaire was the sheriff from 1984 to 2004. Before LeMaire, Euda Delcambre was the sheriff from 1964 to 1984.

On Sunday, the LHSAA will release the high school playoffs, and three Vermilion Parish teams are in.
Those teams are Abbeville High (8-2), Kaplan (7-3) and Vermilion Catholic (10-0).
Abbeville is expected to be seeded No. 13 in the Division II Non-Select power rankings.
According to Geauxprep.com, at noon on Saturday, the Wildcats look like they will be playing Pearl River, ranked No. 20.
Pearl River enters the game with a 5-4 record, losing three out of its last four games. In Pearl River’s five wins, they averaged 46 points a game.
