What can be learned from the corner office?
For those who have attended One Acadiana’s Lessons from the Corner Office series, the answer is plenty.
One Acadiana, formerly the Greater Lafayette Chamber of Commerce, has held events this year that bring business leaders from the area together with its members and investors.
Richard Zuschlag, Chairman and CEO of Acadian Companies, joined the conversation Friday morning, giving One Acadiana members some insight into what it took to create one of the most successful companies in the region’s history.

Abbeville General borrows money to make $1.7 million of improvements on hospital

The Vermilion Parish Police Jury gave the thumbs up to allow Abbeville General to borrow $1.7 million to make improvements to the aging hospital building.
Ray Landry, the CEO of the hospital, attended a recent police jury meeting. He had to get the police jury’s permission to let the hospital borrow the money by selling bonds.
Landry explained to the police jurors that hospital will use the sales tax it collects to pay off the debt over a 10-year period.

Erath woman dies in four-vehicle accident in Lake Charles

LAKE CHARLES - A 37-year-old Erath woman was killed in a four vehicle accident Friday night in Lake Charles on I-210.
Ltanya Rene Wilson of Erath died in the accident.
At approximately 6:01 p.m. Friday, LCPD responded to the accident on I-210 eastbound near Nelson Road; the Lake Charles Fire Department and Louisiana State Police also provided support in assisting with the crash, said Sgt. Jeffrey Keenum, LCPD spokesman.

Vermilion Parsih ninth in graduation rate

The Louisiana Department of Education released graduation rates for the 2015-16 school year and Vermilion Parish continues to rank among the best.
The school district had a 90.6 graduation rate, good for ninth in the state. Lincoln Parish, which ranked one spot ahead of Vermilion, had a 90.7 graduation rate.
The state average is 77 percent.
Vermilion did drop 2.9 percentage points from its 2014-15 rate.

Abbeville man allegedly fires gun into car

An Abbeville man now sits behind bars after being arrested by the Abbeville Police Department for allegedly firing a gun inside of a car that had two people in it.
Neither of the two people in the car were struck by the bullets. It occurred at the corner of Martin Luther King Street and Schlesinger Street.
Arrested was Charles Lee, 25, of Abbeville. The Abbeville police charged Lee with six different crimes, including two attempted murder charges.
