A special arrangement was placed where Kristy Hebert sat on the school board.

Vermilion Parish School Board looking for person to occupy Hebert’s school board seat until March

Special meeting on Tuesday to name person

The Vermilion Parish Schoool Board is now searching for someone to occupy the school board seat of District H, which consist mostly of Erath, south of Erath, and most of Delcambre.
At Thursday’s meeting, the school board selected a day to have a special meeting to name a temporary replacement for the vacant seat of Kristy Hebert, who was killed in a car accident a week ago Friday. She was buried this past Thursday.
If interested, email Superintendent Tommy Byler at superintedent@vpsb.net.
A special meeting will be held this Tuesday to name the replacement.
Then on March 26, 2022, a special election will be held. The election winner will occupy the seat until the regular election in November of 2022.
At the start of Thursday’s meeting, Superintendent Tommy Byler spoke about the loss of Hebert and what she meant to the parish school system, where she was a teacher before becoming a school board member.
“The pride and passion that Kristy had for her Bobcat family, teachers and students always stood tall,” said Byler. “Every opportunity she had to share the big blue passion nation, she did so. It was also fitting that before she was laid to rest, she was able to travel through the Erath student honor guard on the way to her memorial service.”
Hebert was elected as a school board member in 2019. She represented most of Erath, the Henry area, and just about all of Delcambre. Her son is a sophomore at Erath High School.
“Kristy was a champion for her students and teachers,” said Byler. “She made sure she asked all of the right questions that she needed to be answered.
“I truly cherished her phone calls that always started the same way, ‘I hate to ask so many questions, but I will.’
‘The phone conversations always ended with, ‘I am sorry I had to bother you.’
Byler always told her that her phone calls were never a bother because her questions were always good. After all, she cared.
“She always led with her heart, and we will always be thankful.”
