Ben Jones wouldn't mind "Peace River" becoming an overnight success. But that's only if over a decade counts as "overnight."
When the Baton Rouge oil executive's inspirational movie get shown at the Cinemark Perkins Row and 560 screens nationwide on Thursday night, it will have taken that long for his idea to become a reality. His original concept didn't envision some of the casting decisions it would entail.

Vermilion Catholic names Dr. Arabie as new principal

Vermilion Catholic is pleased to announce that Dr. Stella Arabie has been named as the new principal of Vermilion Catholic, a legacy of Mount Carmel.
While her official start date will be July 1, 2022, she will start working with VC principal Mike Guilbeaux immediately to ensure a smooth transition.
Dr. Arabie is coming to Vermilion Catholic with an extensive background in administration and many years in Catholic education.

Kaplan man sentenced to 40 years for 2017 killing in Lafayette

Tyler Benoit, of Kaplan, has been sentenced to 40 years at hard labor for the shooting death of a Lafayette man in 2017
Assistant District Attorneys Alisa Gothreaux and Roya Boustany presented arguments in the sentencing hearing for Tyler Benoit. Benoit who was convicted by a unanimous jury on Oct. 15, 2021. for the crimes of manslaughter involving victim Christon Chaisson, and obstruction of justice.

Abbeville Police arrests two for shots fired at residence

The Abbeville Police Department made two arrests dealing with gun shots fired at a residence earlier this month.
On Feb. 16, at approximately 1:30 a.m. , officers of the Abbeville Police Department responded to a “Shots Fired” call on the 800 block of South East Street.
The initial investigation determined that subjects in a vehicle fired numerous rounds from high powered rifles toward a residence. Detectives were called and took over the investigation.
During the investigation, detectives were able to identify the occupants in the vehicle.

LDH issues guidance on powdered infant formula recall

BATON ROUGE — Louisiana WIC has issued the following guidance, available at LouisianaWIC.org, for WIC participants impacted by a recall of powdered infant formula following the FDA's advisory.
The advisory alerts consumers to avoid purchasing or using certain powdered infant formulas and Abbott voluntarily recalled powder formula including Similac, Alimentum, and EleCare manufactured in Sturgis, Mich. The FDA cited four consumer complaints related to Cronobackter sakazakii and Salmonella Newport in infants.
To date, there are no known cases in Louisiana.
