Erath High going virtual due to COVID-19

Because of seven positive COVID-19 tests, Erath High School has to go virtual.
On Wednesday, Erath High School learned there were seven positive COVID-19 cases on the campus.
EHS Principal Marc Turner did not release information on who were the seven who tested positive, but the Abbeville Meridional has learned it was a combo of students and teachers.
On Wednesday, 95 students and teachers were quarantined for 14 days due to contact tracing.

Bernard may have committed crime while in parish jail

The charges keep piling on for Roland Bernard III.
The latest charge was added Monday by the Vermilion Parish Sheriff Office.
According to Drew David, PIO for the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office, the VPSO Criminal Investigation Division charged Roland Bernard III (Date of birth 8-4-92), with Conspiracy to Commit First Degree Murder on Monday.
No bond has been set on the Conspiracy charge, and due to the investigation deemed ongoing, no further information is available at this time.

Vermilion Catholic senior creates priceless gift

Jude Miller, a senior at Vermilion Catholic High School, just like many kids that age, began drawing around 12 and described his art as ‘just okay’. Five years later, his artwork has gained many fans, and he has credited that to practicing and being inspired by other good artists.

Humane effort to handle feral cats ramps up in Abbeville

In August, discussion during a meeting in Abbeville centered around feral and “community” cats.
These are cats that do no have an owner.
Some people see the cats as a benefit to the community, such as regulating the rodent population. Some people do act as “caretakers” for the cats and feed them.
Others in community see the cats as strictly a nuisance, arguing that there needs to be a way to regulate the growing number of cats.

Abbeville Police looking for man allegedly involved in Saturday afternoon shooting

​On Saturday, at approximately 4:30 p.m. officers of the Abbeville Police Department responded to the area of N. East Street and Nugier Street in reference to shots being fired in the area.
A subsequent investigation concluded that the victim and suspect had a verbal altercation on the roadway near the intersection of N. East Street and Nugier Street. During the altercation, the suspect (identified as Dejon Mikel Chargois of Abbeville) produced a firearm and fired it, striking the victim in the abdomen.
