More than a run: Six months after stroke, Stella Petry Broussard taking part in Beignet Boogie

Stella Petry Broussard will take the starting line Sunday morning for the 8th annual Beignet Boogie 5k.
The race will begin at 9 a.m. on the side of Mount Carmel in Abbeville.
Broussard, 58, has run dozens of races just like this one. Only, this one is different.
Completely different.
Last July, Broussard suffered a massive stroke. During her recovery, Broussard’s wellness nurse had her set goals.
“I wanted to run,” Broussard said.
Broussard set that first goal to be met in October for the Boogie on the Boulevard in Kaplan.

Emily Vidalier of Forked Island-E. Broussard Elementary exhibited the Grand Champion Commercial Heifer at the 46th Annual Vermilion 4-H Livestock Show and Sale. Emily received a bag, ribbon, cash award and a belt buckle. The buckle is sponsored in memory of Freddie LeMaire, Jr., by Scottie LeMaire, Sydney, Tammy and Jamie Gaspard. Her cash award is sponsored by the Vermilion Parish Cattlemen’s Association. Emily also showed the Grand Champion Market Lamb, exhibited the Grand Champion Commercial Ewe; placed 1st in 9-11 year old sheep showmanship; placed 1st in the Beef Premier Exhibitor and Sheep Premier Exhibitor contests. Vermilion Parish 4-H Jr. Livestock Show, Sale totals more than $132,800

The 46th Annual Vermilion Parish 4-H Livestock Show and Sale was a great success. It involved 178 young people who exhibited over 254 head of livestock (beef, sheep, goats, dairy, swine) and 84 poultry entries. This event is organized by the LSU AgCenter Extension Service and was held January 17-18, at the Cecil McCrory Exhibit Building in Abbeville. A large crowd was on hand to witness the skills of these 4-H’ers and to view the extensive exhibition of the highest quality stock in Vermilion Parish.

Students take part in Vermilion Parish Government Day

The Vermilion Parish Government Day is currently being held on January 21-22, 2020 in the Vermilion Parish Courthouse in Abbeville.
High school students from across the parish are running for offices like Defense Attorney and Sheriff. A “crime” will be arranged and committed by Louisiana Boy and Girl Staters and a mock trial will be held once those who win the ‘election’ are sworn in. Guest speaker will be Lt. Col. Scott Desormeaux, Commander 2nd Battalion 156th Infantry Regiment.

Former Kaplan Police Chief Boyd Adams

Warrant issued for former Kaplan Police Chief

KAPLAN - There is a warrant out for the arrest of former Kaplan Police Chief Boyd Adams.
Adams failed to appear in court for a trial docket on Monday at the Vermilion Parish Court House.
Adams’ lawyer was in the courtroom, but not Adams.
Judge Ed Broussard issued the warrant for Adam’s arrest, because he was not in the courtroom.
