Who is going to pick up trash in Vermilion Parish for the next five years?

The Police Jury Public Works Committee voted 7-5 to stick with the same trash pickup company, even though another company offered to do the same job for $108,000 less each year.
The public works committee will let the whole police jury know what they recommend, and then the Police Jury board will vote on it in the next two weeks. For the last 10 years, Waste Connections Bayou has been picking up the trashcans in the parish.  They first signed a five-year contract with the Police Jury, and then the Police Jury renewed its contract for another five years.

Abbeville Community Cleanup Day set for April 26

It’s spring, and that means time for cleaning.
That effort doesn’t have to be limited to your home, either.
Those interested in cleaning on a larger scale can take part in Abbeville’s Cleanup Day on Saturday, April 26. The cleanup, which is sponsored by the Math Depot, will take place from 8 a.m. to noon.
“This isn’t just about picking up trash,” said Nikia Johnson, who helped organize the event, “it’s about coming together as a community, showing pride in where we live, and teaching the next generation what it means to take care of what we’ve been given.
