After five years, Vermilion Task Force arrest Nathan Zenon Jr.

The search to locate Nathan Zenon Jr. is finally over.
After five years, Zenon has managed to elude law enforcement in Vermilion Parish.
The Vermilion Municipal and Sheriff’s Narcotics Task Force located Zenon in Vermilion Parish.
Zenon, 34, was wanted for felony warrants including Felony Aggravated Flight, multiple narcotics offenses, probation offenses and several failure to appear warrants.
Upon being taken into custody, Zenon was found to be in possession of $20,350 of suspected drug money.

GUEYDAN - Saturday night was a dream come true for Kilee Regina Muna, a night she has waited a whole year for.
She was crowned as the 2017 Miss Gueydan on Saturday, May 13, amongst family and friends. The annual pageant, sponsored by Les Dames de Gueydan, was held at 7 p.m. at the Gueydan High School Auditorium. Kilee is the 17 year old daughter of Tracy Broussard of Gueydan.
The newly crowned queen is currently a Junior at Gueydan High School.

BATON ROUGE – The Louisiana Association of Educators (LAE) is pleased to announce Vermilion Parish paraeducator, Veronica Thibeaux, as the recipient of the 2017 LAE ESP Image Award. Thibeaux is special education teaching assistant at Kaplan Elementary School who has dedicated her life to working to better the educational experiences of Vermilion Parish’s students.

Sales tax revenue helps put Abbeville finances in positive position

Thanks in large part to sales tax revenue that has surpassed expectations, the City of Abbeville’s finances are in pretty good shape after the first three months of the year.
During a finance committee meeting held on Tuesday, the Abbeville City Council heard an update on the first quarter of 2017. Steve Moosa of Darnall, Sikes, Gardes &
Frederick provided the update.
“Overall we are in good shape,” Moosa said. “Sales tax and water and sewer revenue are going in a positive direction.”

UL Lafayette’s Spring Commencement ceremonies set for Friday, May 12

LAFAYETTE — Undergraduate, graduate and doctoral degrees will be conferred during the University of Louisiana at Lafayette’s Spring 2017 Commencement ceremonies on Friday, May 12, at the Cajundome and Convention Center and at Bourgeois Hall.
The General Assembly will be held at 11 a.m. at the Cajundome. Doctoral candidates will be hooded at this session. All graduating seniors and faculty members will attend, wearing full academic regalia.
Master’s and bachelor’s degrees will be conferred at ceremonies for each academic college. A schedule and locations are below.
