SEN. JONATHAN “JP” PERRY APPOINTED TO GOVERNOR’S DWI TASK FORCE

District 26 State Senator Jonathan “JP” Perry (R-Kaplan) will represent the Louisiana State Senate on the Governor’s Task Force on DWI.
Governor Edwards recently recreated the task force first established in 2012 to address the high incidence of driving while intoxicated or under the influence of drugs and to help identify and implement effective DWI countermeasures.

Dr. Jack Gupta was named the 2017 Outstanding Citizen of the Year at the Kaplan Area Chamber of Commerce banquet last week, Also shown is his wife, Dr. Padmimi Gupta.

Dr. Jack Gupta honored as Kaplan ‘Citizen of the Year’

KAPLAN — Kaplan Area Chamber members honored Dr. Jack Gupta as the ‘Citizen of the Year’, Acadiana Ford as the ‘Business of the Year’ and Assistant Police Chief as ‘Humanitarian of the Year’ at their annual banquet held at the American Legion earlier this month.
During his acceptance speech, Dr. Gupta thanked the people of Kaplan for accepting him and his family into the community.
“I am proud to be part of this community,” he said. “I have met many good friends here. You can also thank my wife for making us move from New York to Kaplan.

More than 800 have already voted

When polls open for election day this Saturday, a few hundred people will not have to worry about finding time to vote.
More than 800 people took part in early voting ahead of the March 24 elections, which includes municipal races in Abbeville and Kaplan as well as a special election for the Vermilion Parish School Board.
According to Vermilion Parish Registrar of Voters Mike Bertrand, 664 people cast ballots in person. Another 150-plus submitted absentee ballots through the mail.

Jimmy Broussard

20-year-old arrested after allegedly making threats toward school in Abbeville

On March 15, Officers with the Abbeville Police Department arrested 20-year-old Jimmy Broussard of Abbeville for Terrorizing. A report was filed that Broussard made several comments about committing a school shooting. These comments were made to business employees at a local business in Abbeville.
A specific school was not named in the threats.
Broussard denied the allegations.
Broussard’s bond was set at $25,000. Broussard bonded out after being booked. Charges will be sent to the 15th Judicial District Court.

Alison Miller, is moving the tourist commission office to downtown Abbeville, in the cultural center.

Vermilion Parish Tourism Commission moving from the Bypass to downtown

The Vermilion Parish Tourist Commission is in the process of moving from the Highway 14 By-pass location to downtown Abbeville and will reside in the Abbeville Cultural and Historical Alliance located at 200 N. Magadalen Square.
The idea of moving downtown was suggested late last year by the City of Abbeville and members of the Abbeville Cultural and Historical Alliance. After several months of information gathering, the Tourist Commission decided it would be a wise move.
