Streets will be closed downtown Abbeville on Tuesday
The Vermilion Parish Sheriff Office sent out an advisory educating the public that certain Abbeville streets on Tuesday will be closed from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. because Gov. Jeff Landry will be in Abbeville to announce that SpaceX is locating in Vermilion Parish
TRAFFIC CLOSURES
Motorists are encouraged to refer to the attached map when planning travel in the area. Roadways within the perimeter of Railroad Avenue, State Street, Main Street and East Saint Victor Street (inside of the yellow shaded area) will be closed to vehicular travel during this time. These perimeter roads themselves will remain open.
Roadways may reopen sooner as the event concludes and conditions allow. VPSO deputies and assisting agencies will be on site managing traffic and public safety. Please plan your route accordingly and allow additional travel time.
DRONE RESTRICTIONS
For the safety and security of event attendees and the City of Abbeville, the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office and assisting law enforcement agencies will strictly enforce Vermilion Parish Ordinance No. 2025-O-01 during the event.
Under the ordinance, it is unlawful to take off or land a drone within a two-mile radius of a designated event unless expressly authorized.
Sheriff Eddie Langlinais reminds drone operators that these measures are consistent with drone regulations enforced during festivals and other large public events throughout Vermilion Parish. The FAA recognizes the authority of state and local governments to regulate where drones may take off and land, and an FAA airspace authorization does not override applicable local restrictions.
Law enforcement drones will be in flight throughout the event as part of public safety and security operations. VPSO and assisting agencies will be actively monitoring for violations.
