LHSAA announces VC's Kim Guidry will be inducted into the LHSAA Hall of Fame

Kim Guidry, the former head coach of the Vermilion Catholic girls basketball team, began her Thursday morning as usual. But the ordinary quickly faded when a group of her former players and a representative from the Louisiana High School Athletic Association walked into the VC gym. In that moment, Guidry sensed that something was about to unfold.
Jimmy Anderson from the LHSAA and Guidry’s former players walked into the gym to deliver news that would take Guidry completely by surprise.
Anderson walked up to the podium in the middle of the gym and read a letter aloud explaining why he was there.
The letter from the LHSAA informed Guidry that she was selected for induction into the Louisiana High School Athletic Association Hall of Fame.
Anderson read the letter from Karen Hoyt, the assistant executive director of the LHSAA, stating that Guidry will be inducted in April of 2027.
“Please accept our heartfelt congratulations on this tremendous honor,” Hoyt said in the letter. “Being inducted into the LHSAA Hall of Fame is a symbol of excellence, perseverance, and service to our state. We are proud to welcome you into this distinguished Hall, and we look forward to honoring you at the induction ceremony.”
The announcement left Guidry momentarily speechless, her surprise written across her face.
“I was surprised because I spent all of my years coaching at Vermilion Catholic,” said Guidry
With this honor, Guidry joins an elite group, becoming just the second individual from Vermilion Parish ever inducted into the LHSAA Hall of Fame.
Kaplan High graduate and former Meaux High Basketball Coach Raymond Rupert was inducted in 1980. He was in the second class of inductees.
One Meaux High graduate who now ranks in the Top 8 nationally in high school basketball wins, but is not in the LHSAA Hall of Fame, is St. Thomas More head basketball coach Danny Broussard.
Broussard was on hand to present Guidry with flowers right after Guidry heard the news.
“Only a few get to receive this honor,” said Broussard. It shows that she is special. Her staying this long at one school is hard to find these days.”
Broussard said being inducted is a great honor. He is in the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame, voted on by Sports Writers, but he is not in the LHSAA Hall of Fame.
“It is a great honor,” he said. “It shows she is a great coach and everyone appreciates her. She is also a great person.”
Guidry’s remarkable coaching career at Vermilion Catholic stretches across four decades, during which she racked up an astonishing 936 victories and led her teams to numerous LHSAA Championship Round appearances.
Her teams soared to state runner-up finishes in 2015 and 2019, and she guided the Lady Eagles to state championships in 1999 and 2013, both celebrated at the University of Louisiana at Monroe.
Beyond her coaching triumphs, Guidry has also served as Athletic Director, a role she now shares with assistant football coach Brett Blakely.
Today, the VC gym proudly bears Guidry’s name, a lasting tribute to her legacy.
