Kaplan's Marylin DeMarcy Morvant passes away

Kaplan—A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, July 2, 2018 at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church honoring the life of Marylin DeMarcy Morvant, 80, who passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, June 29, 2018. She will be laid to rest at Kaplan Cemetery with Reverend Mark Miley officiating the services. Serving as pallbearers will be Lance Romero, Adam Magee, Andrew Morvant, Jonathan Morvant, Alexander Morvant, and Jake Morvant.
Marylin was born on September 15, 1937, to Sidney and Lucille Sorbert DeMarcy in Abbeville, Louisiana, and grew up near Perry on the family farm with her nine brothers and sisters. She attended school in the community of Perry, LA and later graduated from high school at Abbeville High School. In 1956 she married the love of her life, Ray Morvant, and together they raised four children. In their 62 years of marriage Marylin and Ray had various business interests including their State Farm Insurance Agency, H&R Block tax preparation service, Marylin’s, a dress shop, among other interests.

In 1989 Marylin was instrumental in forming Cajun Quilters Guild with a group of ladies who would work together for the next 25 years making quilts to support local charities, including Maltrait Memorial School in Kaplan.
Marylin enjoyed cooking and baking, gardening, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed vacationing with her growing family.
Marylin, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, will be forever missed by her loving husband Ray Morvant; her children, Hank Morvant and his wife, Sena, Suzette and her husband James Magee, Kelly Morvant and his wife, Dawn, and Jason Morvant and his wife, Kristen; ten grandchildren, Lance, Adam, Andrew, Michelle, Caroline, Jonathan, Alexander, Jake, Gabrielle, and Kate; nine great grandchildren; two brothers, Carroll DeMarcy and Sidney “Bubba” DeMarcy; three sisters, Goldie DeMarcy Hebert, Eleanor DeMarcy Dartez, and Gloria DeMarcy Robinson; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Sidney W. DeMarcy and Lucille Sorbet DeMarcy; and four siblings, Hartwell DeMarcy, Ray Allen DeMarcy, Helen DeMarcy Broussard, and Vivian DeMarcy Breaux.
The family would like to thank Eleanor DeMarcy Dartez, Sarah Simon, and Hospice of Acadiana for their loving care of Marylin in her final months.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of Acadiana.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Kaplan, 300 N. Eleazar Ave., on Sunday, July 1, 2018 from 3:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a rosary being prayed at 7:00 PM; Monday, July 2, 2018 from 9:00 AM until the procession departs for the church.
