LAFAYETTE – ExxonMobil recently committed $500,000 to Ducks Unlimited (DU) to help support the Bayou Chene restoration project in Vermilion Parish.
“We are pleased to see this partnership renewed and elevated,” said DU Director of Development Bob Dew. “ExxonMobil and Ducks Unlimited share a significant interest in ensuring the coastal wetlands that make Louisiana an incredible place to live, work, and visit are here for generations to come. For example, ExxonMobil has supported conservation efforts at Sherburne and Pointe-aux-Chenes Wildlife Management Areas, which are owned and managed by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.”
ExxonMobil and DU first partnered in 1993 on the Leck Mayes Reservoir project in Wyoming. Since then, ExxonMobil has focused the majority of its support on wetlands conservation efforts in Louisiana, and its overall investment in conservation through Ducks Unlimited reached $1.5 million.
“ExxonMobil is committed to protecting biodiversity where our people work, live and enjoy the unique Louisiana culture that revolves around this sportsman’s paradise,” said Joe Colletti, Louisiana asset manager, ExxonMobil Low Carbon Solutions. “The important wetland restoration and protection work that DU does through its Gulf Coast Initiative provides vital habitats for waterfowl, wildlife and fisheries, along with storm protection for coastal communities.”
The half-million-dollar grant will support the Bayou Chene Marsh Enhancement project west of the Vermilion River and north of the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway near Intracoastal City. The project area consists of 900 acres of marsh damaged by Hurricane Rita. The 2005 storm surge converted several hundred acres of emergent marsh to open water and increased tidal flow, which continues to affect the area through exacerbated scour and shoreline erosion.
DU plans to install a low-level rock weir and an earthen plug in two waterways adjacent to Bayou Chene to reduce tidal scour and restore the hydrologic integrity of the project area. DU will also construct approximately 24,000 linear feet of marsh terraces within the open-water areas to reduce wave action and shoreline erosion and create suitable conditions for submerged aquatic vegetation (SAV) growth. SAVs are important food resources for waterfowl and nursery grounds for young fish and shellfish.
The project area is owned by ExxonMobil and is managed by the Vermilion Corporation through a long-term surface lease. Additional project support comes from the North American Wetlands Conservation Council, Vermilion Parish Police Jury, Vermilion Corporation, Chevron, Louisiana’s Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority, Whitestone Inc., Mr. James Broussard and DU Gulf Coast Initiative Sponsors.

KAPLAN — A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, December 2, 2022 at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church honoring the life of Theodore “Sam” Joseph Broussard, 86, who died Monday, November 28, 2022 at Our Lady of Lourdes Heart Hospital. He will be laid to rest at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Cemetery with Reverend Ted Broussard officiating the services.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Dianne Hebert Broussard of Kaplan; his son, Reverend Theodore Broussard, Jr. of St. Bridgette's of Lawtell; his four daughters, Micky and her husband, Craig Hargrave of Cow Island, Tammie and her husband, Don Foutaine of Kaplan, Bennie and her husband, Brian Roche of Kaplan and Toni and her husband, Darrin Johnson of Kaplan; his 13 grandchildren; his 15 great grandchildren; and his two sisters, Bertile Harrington and her husband, Mahlen of Nunez and Audrey "Tot Simon and her husband, Dayton of Abbeville. Serving as pallbearers will be Craig Hargrave, Don Fontaine, Darrin Johnson, Brian Roche, Justin Johnson and Ben Monton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Evie Broussard; his two brothers, Wilson Broussard and Floyd Broussard; and his sister, Thelma Broussard.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, 600 N. Church Avenue, on Friday, December 2, 2022 from 9:00 AM until the time of the services at 2:00 PM with a rosary being prayed at 1:00 PM.

Daniel Lee Frederick, age 80, passed away Thursday, November 24, 2022, 4 days shy of his 81st birthday, after a brief illness. He was a native of Abbeville, La., current resident of Gonzales post-Katrina. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 49 years Nathalie Pellittieri and his son, Brandon Neil, who cherished and admired him. He is survived by his sister, Jo-ann Picard (Huey) and nieces, Debra Foster (JC) and Karen Picard (Curtis), as well as brothers and sisters-in-law; Gregory & Sandy and Michael & Donna, along with a host of nieces and nephews.
He was proceeded in death by his parents Eddie J. and Etta Trahan Frederick.
Dan was a retired Vice President of JP Morgan Chase after 35 years of service. He was an outdoorsman who loved cycling, canoeing/kayaking and wilderness camping. He was a huge fan of LSU football and baseball.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Dr. Salvador Caputo and Dr. Leonard Glade, as well as all of the staff at Touro Hospital, especially nurse Thi, ICU 3, who worked tirelessly providing care.

DELCAMBRE – A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Noicy “Red” Joseph Langlinais, age 86, at 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 1, 2022 at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Delcambre. Fr. Nathan Comeaux will officiate. Following the services, The Iberia Veterans Honor Guard will perform military honors. Interment will be held privately at a later date.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Evangeline Funeral Home in Delcambre on Wednesday from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. Masonic services will be held at 5:30 p.m. and William and Earl Seaux will be preforming a song in Red’s honor at 6:30 p.m. A rosary being led by the St. Anne’s Altar Society will be prayed at 7 p.m. The funeral home will reopen on Thursday at 8 a.m. until the service time.
A native and lifelong resident of Delcambre, Mr. Langlinais passed away on Monday, November 28, 2022 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Langlinais proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps and was honorably discharged.
Noicy, better known as “Red” by family and friends, was a dedicated man who grew up in a family steeped in Cajun tradition and taught the value of a hard day’s work. From a young age Red began working at Brady Engine Co., learning how to be a diesel mechanic. He worked his way up from a floor sweeper to manager. Eventually, Red opened up his own business, Acadiana Laundry & Dry Cleaning, and operated it for 23 years from 1989 to 2012. When not working, Red dedicated his time to helping train and handle canines for both the Vermilion and Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Departments.
Perhaps his proudest accomplishment was becoming a Shriner. Red was a Master Mason of the Jeanerette Masonic Lodge and became Worshipful Master of the Jeanerette Lodge in 1979. He acquired a plural membership in the New Iberia Aurora Lodge and became Worshipful Master of the Aurora Lodge in 1998 where he became a perpetual member. Red later became District Grand Deputy Master and then Grand Junior Deacon. He was the Grand Representative from 1994-2022. He was on the Grand Lodge Membership Development Committee and the Special Grand Lodge Session Arrangements Committee. Red entered the Scottish Rite where he received his 32˚ KCCH and his 33˚. He became a Shriner and was Potentate of the Lake Charles Habibi Temple in 2004.
Red will be forever remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend. He will be truly and deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Red is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Verlie Veronie Langlinais; sons, Tracy Langlinais (Mary Zeller) and Eddie Langlinais (Lyndi); daughter, Hope Richard; sister, Jeanne L. Viator; grandchildren, Paige Langlinais, Broc Langlinais, DeLannie Delcambre, Jeric Langlinais, Seth Richard, Toria Richard, and Jennifer Richard; and five great grandchildren.
Red is preceded in death by his parents, Kossuth “Belou” Langlinais and Jeanne LeBlanc Langlinais; sister, Jeanette L. Moneaux; and son-in-law, Leland P. Richard.
Pallbearers will be Chris Broussard, Dylan LeBlanc, Tren Delcambre, Seth Richard, Jeric Langlinais, and Caleb Mossin.
Honorary pallbearers will be Broc Langlinais, Leonard Klepec, Aaron Duplantis, and Trey Delcambre.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the staffs of Hospice of Acadiana and Right at Home Health and to Red and Verlie’s in-home caretaker, Kim Montgomery for the kindness and care provided to them.
