Virginia Emelie Broussard Young “Koddy”

March 7, 1931 - April 5, 2024

ABBEVILLE — Koddy died peacefully at home in the presence of her family at age ninety-three. In those ninety-three years, she embodied kindness and love to the immense benefit of all who knew her, and these qualities remain in the hearts of all who will remember her.
Koddy was the only sister to three brothers, Donnie, René (T-Bub), and Sammy Broussard. Koddy attended Dominican College, New Orleans, in 1949 where she encountered and soon after married Dr. Robert J. Young, Jr.—known to all as “Sonny”, in 1950. Koddy and Sonny had four children from 1951 to 1958: Chip, Chris, Ginger, and Andy. Over the nine-plus decades of her life, she sowed an abiding love with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren—along with uncountable nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. Through the years in Abbeville, she hosted hundreds, and threw many parties that lived—and continue to live—happily in the memories of those that were lucky enough to attend.
Koddy’s spirit went well beyond just being wife and mother. She traveled widely and saw many adventures. Koddy embraced the joys of being an equestrian, pilot, offshore angler, and jovial companion to fellow travelers. She was also a shark at any game that could be played with a deck of cards.
Koddy’s brothers sadly all died before her, as did her husband, Sonny.  She leaves joyful memories of her rich life with her children, their spouses: Becky, Joe, Mike, and Nancy, and with her ten grandchildren: Virginia, Annie, Adam, Beau, Robert, Caroline, Natalie, Sam, Camillie, and Zach. Her legacy includes 10 great grandchildren: Liam, Lila, Arran, James, Rebecca, Henry, Angelle, Anderson, Harry, and Jackson.
Funeral services are being arranged by Vincent Funeral Home in Abbeville.  A visitation for friends and family will begin at 9 a.m. on Thursday, April 11 at Mary Magdalen Catholic Church, 300 Pere Megret St., Abbeville .  Services will begin at 10 a.m.. She will then be laid to rest at St. Paul Cemetery.
