Kaplan unable to beat Crowley for piece of district lead

The Kaplan Pirates had a chance to move into a two-way tie for first place in the district with a win over Crowley on Tuesday.
Unfortunately, the Pirates gave up one run in the bottom of the sixth frame en route to a 5-4 loss to Crowley.
The Pirates fall to 10-12 overall and are now 3-2 in the district. Crowley (13-10) is 5-0. Kaplan remains at No. 22 in the Class 3A power rankings. Crowley is No. 17.
Kaplan scored two runs in the first inning. Grant Campbell had a double and Reece Hardee reached first to put runners on the corner. Campbell scored on an error by the catcher for a 1-0 lead. Bronson Simon singled and Hardee would score when he stole home.
Crowley slowly worked its way back into the game by adding one run in the bottom of the first inning.
Crowley led 4-2 after four innings.
Kaplan tied it 4-4 in the top of the fifth frame.
Landon Berryhill reached first base on an error and then Brett Guidry walked. Landon Cheek placed down a fielder’s choice bunt that moved runners over.
With the bases loaded, Payton Ford hit a sacrifice ground out that scored Berryhill. Grant Campbell executed a bunt that scored Guidry and tied the game.
However, Crowley scored the game-winner in the bottom of the sixth frame.
Kaplan had only four hits in the game.
Campbell finished the game with two hits, including a double. Campbell pitched six innings ad gave up six hits and three earned runs.
Crowley will be in Kaplan on Thursday for another district game.
