VC gets its 23rd straight regular season win

The Vermilion Catholic Eagles have won 23 straight regular-season games after whipping Highland Baptist 45-0 on Friday.
Since losing to Erath High 36-34 in 2021, VC has won 23 straight regular season games. They are 23-2 overall, with their only two losses coming in the playoffs.
Since that loss at home in 2021, the Eagles (5-0) have won 12 straight homes, counting playoff wins.
On Friday, when the first quarter was over, VC led 14-0. Tyjh Williams had a 26-yard touchdown run, and Dane Richoux nailed the extra point for the 7-0 lead.
The Eagles went to the air for their second score.
Jonathan Dartez threw a 38-yard touchdown pass to Jyrin Bessard in the first period.
Richoux kicked his second extra point, putting VC up 14-0 when the first quarter ended.
The Eagles added two more scores in the second period. Tyjh Williams scored both. He had a 37-yard run and an 8-yard TD run, scoring 28-8 at the half.
Richoux nailed all six extra points he kicked in the game.
Others who scored a touchdown in the second half were quarterback Jonathan Dartez, who had a 45-yard TD run, and Luke McLain, who scored from 9 yards out.
Dartez had 10 carries for 165 yards and a score.
Williams rushed for 124 yards on four carries. McLain had four carries for 25 yards and a score.
Dartez completed five out of nine passes for 58 yards and a touchdown. Will Simon, his backup, got to see action at QB. He completed two out of four passes for 40 yards.
Hudson Hebert had two catches for 17 yards. Others with receptions were Bessard (1-28), Dartez (1-25) and Richoux (1-15).
