Frick shifting from middle linebacker to outside LB for Kaplan this season

KAPLAN — Dane Frick will move from middle linebacker to outside linebacker for the Kaplan Pirates this season after compiling 92 tackles and earning first-team All-District honors in 2022.
Kaplan head coach Cory Brodie said Frick, who will be a junior this season, accepted a leadership role this summer, becoming a more vocal leader, along with fellow junior Bradyn Bearb.

Erath senior receiver Christian Pillette wants to help Bobcats to best playoff finish ever in ’23

ERATH — Star receiver Christian Pillette is looking to make his senior season memorable.
While he put up big numbers in 2022, leading all Vermilion Parish high school players in receptions (44), receiving yards (843) and receiving touchdowns (8), Pillette has his eyes set on a bigger goal.
“We’re looking to make something big,” he said. “We’re looking to do something Erath has never done before, just get to the second round and get through it, and keep working.”

2023 Champion: Oregon native adds golf title to his very impressive resumé

John Tommasini has an impressive resumé at the age of 34.
He is married with a child, a college graduate (Oregon State, predentist), a former D-I college baseball player (played infield for Oregon State), and a successful business owner (he owns four Jet Coffee establishments in Lafayette). Now, he can put on his resumé — a championship golfer.
On Sunday, July 30, Tommansini won his first-ever golf title by winning the Southern Oaks Country Club Members Championship Tournament.

Ty Detraz displays the kind of work ethic that Abbeville High head football coach Roderick Moy would love to see out of every player on his team.
Detraz, who will be starting at center for the third straight year for the Wildcats this fall, will also fill another role for Abbeville this season as a starting linebacker.
“The work ethic speaks for itself,” Moy said. “As far as attendance goes, you’re talking about a kid who’s missed one workout in four years, and that speaks to who he is and his level of commitment to the program and a guy we can get behind.

Erath High quarterback Lynkon Romero has attended several camps this summer to improve on his game and to work with college coaches in the process.

Offseason prep: Time spent at QB camps helping Erath’s Romero prepare for senior season, college

ERATH — Starting quarterback Lynkon Romero looks forward to an even better senior season with the Erath High Bobcats after an offseason spent at numerous camps and working with star receiver Christian Pillette.
Romero passed for 1,653 yards and 16 touchdowns and ran for 477 yards and 12 TDs as a junior. He said that his work at off-season camps the past two years in an effort to improve and get him exposure to college coaches.
