Surviving as a farmer

The switch was not easy, but it was one the Hebert family had to make to survive as a farmer in Vermilion Parish.
Dane Hebert, a third-generation farmer, and his daughter, Lauren, now a fourth-generation farmer, spoke on Wednesday morning at the Abbeville Rotary Club meeting.
Lauren was also presented with the 2024 Vermilion Parish Farmer of the Year award at the Rotary meeting. The Abbeville Rotary Club gives the award to a farmer each year.
The Hebert family attended the meeting to inform the Rotarians about family farming in Vermilion Parish.

Abbeville man booked in connection to drive-by shooting

An Abbeville man faces charges for his alleged connection to a drive-by shooting that occurred last month.
According to Vermilion Parish Sheriff Eddie Langlinais, on Nov. 19, at approximately 12:41 a.m., the Vermilion Parish Sheriff's Office responded to a 911 call in reference to a shooting that took place on La. Highway 695.
Upon the arrival of Patrol Deputies, it was learned that an unknown subject shot several rounds from the highway and into a residence occupied by the homeowner and a guest.

‘That’s your heritage’

Many in Vermilion Parish share concerns that the impact of the French language is diminishing locally.
However, those concerns can be mitigated by looking at the thriving French Immersion program at LeBlanc Elementary School (LES). The school displayed that success last week when it celebrated exceeding 100 students in the program. Students performed for family and other guests from the community.

Kaplan man in jail after allegedly stealing a tractor and then tried to run from police in two parishes

A man from Kaplan is in jail after reportedly stealing a tractor and then attempting to evade the cops across two parishes.
According to Sheriff Eddie Langlinais, on November 19, 2024, at approximately 9 a.m., Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office – Patrol Division received a report of a stolen tractor in the Youngsville area, within Vermilion Parish.
The tractor was spotted near the Woodlawn Bridge on La- 82. The tractor then traveled on Woodlawn Road to Bourque Road, near La-92, where an officer from the Maurice Police Department attempted a traffic stop on the tractor.
