Man dies in Abbeville house fire

One man perished in a fire that consumed a home Thursday morning in Abbeville.
The blaze also claimed the lives of more than a dozen dogs.
Abbeville Fire Chief Jude Mire said his department received the call of smoke in the area around John Hardy Drive and Charity Street around 8:30 a.m.
“It was totally engulfed when we arrived on scene,” Mire said. “It didn’t take long for it to go up.’’

Abbeville National Guard soldier arrested for murder

A National Guard soldier in Georgia is facing murder charges after allegedly shooting and killing a man he found with the mother of his child.
Natravien Landry, 25, of Abbeville, an Army National Guard soldier assigned to the 1148th Transportation Company at Fort Eisenhower, is charged with one count of murder, Jill E. Steinberg, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Georgia, said in a statement.
The victim was identified by Fort Eisenhower as U.S. Army Sgt. Andre S. Stewart Jr., Stars and Stripes, WRDW, and The Augusta Press report.

Attorney General Murrill’s LBI agents arrest Rayne man for Pornography Involving Juveniles

Agents with Attorney General Liz Murrill’s Louisiana Bureau of Investigation arrested a man from Rayne on December 17, 2024.
Jacob Charles Comeaux, 21, of Wiltz Street in Rayne, was arrested for violating:
• 14:81.1-- Pornography Involving Juveniles Under the Age of 13 – 7 Counts
A tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children sparked our investigation.

Abbeville's Christmas Celebration a huge success

The Christmas Celebration in Abbeville is getting bigger each year, and this year may have been the best.
On Saturday, downtown Abbeville looked like a Hallmark TV movie, with white lights lighting up buildings and the streets.
The day began early with a car show and musical entertainment, and it capped off with a 5:30 p.m. parade and a visit from Santa in Magdalen Square.
With perfect weather, the Abbeville streets were packed along the parade route, which began at Jim’s Tire Service and ended at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church.
The parade lasted 45 minutes.
