Francine spares Vermilion Parish

Thankfully, Vermilion Parish went largely unscathed by Hurricane Francine.
Initially tracked to hit Vermilion Parish, the storm made landfall in Terrebonne Parish, around 30 miles south of Morgan City, on Wednesday evening as a Category 2 storm.
As of Thursday morning, no extensive or major damage had been reported in Vermilion Parish. Some in Vermilion Parish were among the thousands in Louisiana to lose power due to the storm’s effects. That had mostly been rectified by Thursday morning as things began to return to normal.

The storm is predicted to make landfall in the purple area on the map, as of Monday at 5 p.m.

Tropical storm now expected to hit on west end of Vermilion Parish, Wednesday afternoon

As Tropical Storm Francine approaches Louisiana, the forecast for Vermilion Parish is getting more severe. Francine is expected to bring 100 mph winds and a potential 12-foot storm surge to the parish’s coastline.
On Monday morning, Francine was predicted to make landfall in Intracoastal City late Wednesday night. It was forecasted to be a Cat. 1 (75 miles per hour winds) hurricane.
Five hours later, the news did not get any better for Vermilion Parish.

Vermilion Parish Schools will be closed on Tuesday, Sept. 10 and Wednesday, Sept. 11.
Vermilion Parish Superintendent Tommy Byler made the announcement as officials continue to monitor developments involving Tropical Storm Francine.
“We will make a decision about Thursday once we have further confirmation on the projected track,” Vermilion Parish Superintendent Tommy Byler said. “We want to give all time to prepare for this storm which is currently projected to hit in Intracoastal City on the current model runs.
“Stay safe everyone.”

Abbeville man wanted in connection to Aug. 16 shooting

An Abbeville man is wanted on multiple charges for his alleged involvement in a shooting that occurred at a local apartment complex last month.
On Aug. 16, at approximately 11:09 p.m., officers from the Abbeville Police Department responded to reports of gunfire at the Stone Bridge apartments in Abbeville.
Following an investigation, including the execution of search warrants and review of surveillance footage in the vicinity, the incident was captured on camera, showing individuals fleeing with firearms. Subsequently, the suspects were identified, and arrests were made.
