BATON ROUGE, La. – Louisiana Senator Bob Hensgens was unanimously elected chair of the Energy and Environment Committee for The Council of State Governments Southern Office (CSG South) by members of the committee during the 78th Annual Southern Legislative Conference (SLC) held on July 21 - 25 at the Greenbrier Hotel in West Virginia.
On the afternoon of Aug. 8, the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office received a request from the Vermilion Parish Coroner’s Office to present an Order of Protective Custody to a subject who was reportedly suicidal.
Deputies were dispatched to the subject’s residence where Abbeville Police Department was already on scene attempting to make contact with the subject. After numerous attempts, the officers remained unsuccessful and no response was received from inside the residence.
The city of Abbeville has announced a boil advisory that will be effective 7 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 10.
The boil advisory is due to the replacement of a fire hydrant.
The affected areas include:
• Coulee Kinney to Hwy 14 (Bypass)
• Bruno Street
• Carolyn Street
• Assay Street
During this advisory, it is recommended that all water used for drinking, cooking, or oral hygiene be boiled for at least one minute.
Residents will notified promptly once the advisory has been lifted.
Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Sgt. Justin Sonnier seized the oysters and returned them to the water.
A Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agent cited three subjects for alleged oyster violations on Aug. 4 in Vermilion Parish.
Sgt. Justin Sonnier cited Jose Ayala, 53, of Dickenson, Texas, Manuel Ayala, 63, of San Leon, Texas, and Adrian Ayala, 29, of Dickinson, Texas, for unlawfully taking oysters from a private lease. Jose Ayala was also cited for failing to have written permission to remove oysters from a private lease and harvesting oysters from an unmarked lease.
