Cathy M. Williams

ABBEVILLE — A Home-going Service for Cathy Marie Williams will be celebrated on Saturday, November 21, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. at Faith Hope Christian Fellowship Baptist Church, 407 Duroq Street in Abbeville, LA. Pastor Willie Williams will officiate this service. Viewing will begin at 8:00 A.M. until the time of the service. Interment will be in the Mt. Triumph Cemetery, Prairie Street, Abbeville, LA.
Due to current COVID-19 health restrictions, masks and social distancing are mandatory for all attendees.
Cathy Marie Williams was born on March 15, 1956, to the late Ernestine “Mable” Williams and Herman Reedom in Abbeville, LA. On Friday, November 6, 2020, at 9:00 A.M. Cathy fell asleep in Jesus Christ and entered into eternal rest.
Cathy accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized by the late A.J. May at the Mt. Triumph Baptist Church. As a little girl and throughout her adult years until her illness, she was a very active and faithful member of the Mt. Triumph B.C. family. There were no tasks too great or too small for Sis. Cathy to carryout. Anytime she was asked to undertake a task, she worked wholeheartedly which was second nature to her and saw to it that it was done. Sis. Cathy served in and on various ministries and committees in the church. During her earthly walk, she used her love and gift for singing and joined the Mt. Triumph B.C. Choir as a youth and continued as an adult. Under the leadership of the late Dr. Henry L. Maze Sr., she served as a Deaconess, she was a member of the Mission Ministry, a teacher for the Adult Sunday School class, worked with the Vacation Bible School Department, and enjoyed attending Bible Study. She was a true soldier for Christ. Sis. Cathy loved Abbeville and enjoyed working with the Herod Village Inc., Martin Luther King Federation Planning Committee, and served as a Voter Commissioner for Vermilion Parish. She also assisted sister churches in Abbeville in various capacities.
Cathy was a member of the 1974 graduating class of Abbeville High School. After receiving her high school diploma, Cathy attended Abbeville Beauty Academy School where she obtained her Cosmetology License. Later, she became a Bus Driver for the Vermilion Parish School Board and worked faithfully for 17 years until her health no longer allowed her to. Here she gained many lasting friendships and left many cherished memories with her bus riders and her colleagues. All will remember “Ms. Cathy.”
She leaves to cherish her memories six children: Chellen (Errol), Martin Renee and Eldridge Allen (Shon) Williams of Abbeville, LA, Corie Williams (Dana) of Spring, TX, Jamal Williams of Houston, TX, Deanna Perro (Leshain) of Rochester, NY, and a special daughter: Kathy Bailey (Eric) of Oklahoma City, OK; five sisters: Glendia George (Collins), Brenda Gage and Glenda Landry of Abbeville, LA, Varetta Reedom of Port Arthur, TX, and Sheila Reedom-Clements (Ulysses) of Atlanta, GA; eight brothers: Crandell Williams (Natasha) and Carlton(Bruce) Reedom both of Abbeville, LA, Eric Williams of Lake Charles, LA, Wade Williams of Baton Rouge, LA, Minister John-Murphy Williams (Michelle) of Beach Park, IL, Minister Crawford Williams of Beaumont, TX, Malcolm Williams of Houston, TX, Dawayne Williams of Fayetteville, NC; sisters-in-law: Alice Levine (Chris) and Julia Ned both of Abbeville, LA; brother-in-law: Ira Hawkins of Houston, TX. Cathy had three very special cousins that were like sisters and a brother to her: Dolores Adams, Dorothy Lapoint, and George Williams (Betty) all of Abbeville, LA; twenty-two grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She also leaves her special childhood friends and her life journey friend: Sherry “Black” Bessard, Caroline Evans, Babbie January, Theresa Holmes and a special friend: Mr. Dalton Brailey.
She was preceded in death by her spouse of 23 years: Freddie Nolan; her son: Boyd Williams; her mother and father, her maternal grandparents: Sylvester Williams and Lela Wilson; paternal grandparents: Marshall and Maggie Harris Reedom, and a dear sister: Janet Rose Hawkins.

Charles Robert “Bobby” Latiolais

Charles Robert “Bobby” Latiolais, 79, died on Saturday, October 10, 2020, at Cypress Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in San Marcos, Texas. 
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in Abbeville, LA 300 Pere Megret St., Abbeville, LA 70510 on Monday, November 23, 2020 at 10AM.Fr. Louie Richard will be the celebrant of the mass and Deacon Billy Vincent will assist. A 9:00am visitation in church will proceed the 10:00 am Mass.  Interment will be held at 12:00 Noon at Calvary Cemetery in Lafayette, Louisiana (355 Teurlings Dr. Lafayette, LA 70501).  
Bobby was born, September 25, 1941, in Lafayette, Louisiana. He attended elementary and high school at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic School and spent 3 years at Immaculata Minor Seminary in Lafayette, LA.  Bobby served in the United States Air Force from 1960 to 1964. He attended college at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration in 1971.  
After college graduation in 1971 Bobby made his home in Galveston, Texas with is family where he worked in several sales positions with most of his career as a car salesman and then eventually owning a water blasting company. Throughout Bobby’s life he was a dedicated parishioner in Catholic churches in Galveston, Santa Fe, and Alvin, Texas. Bobby moved to San Marcos in May of 2019 enjoying quality time spent with son, Bobby, daughter, Laura, son-in-law, Mark and grandson, Beau.
Bobby genuinely loved people especially children. He enjoyed time with friends and family especially over a great meal. He was always excited to share a meal together and was great at selecting fantastic restaurants. Bobby was an avid sports fan of many teams especially Houston and Louisiana teams.
 He is survived by his children: son Robert “Bobby” Charles Latiolais, daughter Dr. Laura Latiolais Duhon, Laura´s husband Mark Duhon, grandson Beau Duhon, daughters: Robin Latiolais Bayer, Hannah Latiolais, and Holly Latiolais.  The family is grateful to Dr. Laura Latiolais Duhon and her family for caring for Bobby, especially in the last year of his life.
Bobby is also survived by his sister Sr. Carmelita Latiolais and his brothers Martin Latiolais and Paul Latiolais, his Aunt Willana Edwards James, as well as many loving cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father Charles Robert Latiolais, Sr. as well as his mother, Martha Latiolais Ogden.

Melody LaSalle Lyons

ERATH — Funeral Services for Melody LaSalle Lyons, 64, will be Saturday, November 21, 2020 at 2:00PM in David Funeral Home of Erath. Interment will follow in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery.
Visitation will be in David Funeral Home of Erath Friday, November 20, 2020 from 4:00PM until 10:00PM with recitation of the rosary at 7:00PM. Visitation will resume Saturday from 8:00AM until service time.
Melody, a native and resident of Erath passed away Tuesday, November 17, 2020 at Louisiana Extended Care Hospital in Lafayette. She loved music and came from a musically inclined family. Her personality was larger than life and she was a mother figure to everyone. She was a people person who put others needs before her own. She enjoyed her job as a cashier at Lowe’s in Abbeville and greeted her customers with a smile. She enjoyed spending time with her family but her greatest joy was being a grandmother. She was an avid Saints fan and you could hear her cheering all throughout the house. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Ronald Dale Lyons of Erath, 2 sons, Jared Lyons of Lake Charles, Beau Lyons and wife Toni of Erath, 2 daughters, Arianna Lyons of Lafayette, Brittany Sonnier and husband Jason of Lafayette, 2 brothers, Ricky LaSalle and wife Jackie of Erath, Tim LaSalle and wife Cecile of Erath, 4 sisters, Shannon LaSalle of Erath, Drucie Boudreaux and husband Dennis of Erath, Starr Price and husband Daniel of New Iberia, Sandra Touchet and husband Gene of Erath, 2 Grandchildren, Elijah Lyons and Coehn Lyons both of Lake Charles.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph “Needless” and Irene Segura LaSalle, an infant brother, Saunders LaSalle.

State Sales Tax holiday set for Friday, Saturday

BATON ROUGE – A state sales tax holiday to provide relief for Louisiana residents recovering from hurricanes Laura and Delta, in addition to the COVID-19 public health emergency, will take place Friday, Nov. 20 and Saturday, Nov. 21.
Act 16 of the 2020 Second Extraordinary Session of the Louisiana Legislature exempts the first $2,500 of most consumer purchases from the 4.45% state sales tax. The exemption applies to in-store purchases as well as transactions completed online or by telephone.
Eligible transactions include:
· Buying and accepting delivery of tangible personal property
· Placing tangible personal property on layaway
· Making final payment on tangible personal property previously placed on layaway

The sales tax holiday does not apply to:
· Business or commercial purchases of tangible personal property
· Prepared meals
· Rentals or leases of tangible personal property
· Sales of taxable services
· Vehicles subject to license and title

The sales tax holiday exempts eligible purchases from the 4.45% state sales tax only. Local sales and use taxes apply to all purchases.

Roland Bernard, Jr.

ABBEVILLE – Funeral services for Roland Bernard, Jr. will be held Saturday, November 21, 2020 at Arc Of The Covenant Church – 210 South St. Valerie Street with visitation from 10:00 A.M. to time of service which is 12:00 noon.
Roland Bernard, Jr. was the son of Roland Bernard, Sr. and Geraldine B. Bernard. He was born in Abbeville, LA and was a hard-working man. His chosen professions were that of commercial fisherman and oilfield worker. He was a loving son, brother and a very devoted father.
He leaves to cherish his memories his father Roland Bernard, Sr. of Abbeville, LA; his fiancée Chloe M. Darby of Abbeville; four (4) children: Tyrone (Russtina), Teria (Patrick), Roland III (T’Niya) and Jarrion all of Abbeville; one step-daughter Hailey Darby; four (4) brothers: Ronald (Patricia), Tyrone (Jeaneen), Zachary (Trina) all of Abbeville and Albert (Hazel) of Texas; one Godchild De’Ante Bessard; twenty-four (24) grandchildren; and one great-grandchild all of Abbeville, LA as well as a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives and friends.
Roland was preceded in death by his mother, Geraldine B. Bernard; wife Earetha B. Bernard and uncles, aunts relatives and friends.

Ned Nelson Nugier, Sr.

February 15, 1951 ~ November 16, 2020

ABBEVILLE — Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, November 21, 2020 at Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville honoring the life of Ned Nelson Nugier, 69, who died Monday, November 16, 2020 at Willis-Knighton Medical Center in Shreveport, LA. He will be laid to rest at Graceland Cemetery with Deacon William “Billy” Vincent officiating the services.
Ned is survived by his son, Ned Nugier, Jr. and wife, Laurisa Stelly Nugier of Nunez, LA; daughter, Mary Limon and husband, Jose Limon of Anna, TX; grandchildren, Christopher Limon, Catherine Limon, Jackson Nugier, and Grace Nugier; step-sons, Freddie Comeaux and wife, Jessie, Treg Comeaux, and Derek Baudoin and wife, Amanda,; step-daughters, Brandy Duplantis and husband, Steven, and Lindsey Meaux and husband, Tad; step-grandchildren, Allie, Gabe, Kaitlyn, Landon, Maddox, Gabrielle, Hayden, and Gracie; and siblings, Isabell Snody, Sheryl Nugier, John Nugier, Mary Cox, Carol Anderson, Billy Nugier, and Heather Alleman.
He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Brien Nugier, Sr; mother, Gloria Mae O’Quinn Nugier; 2nd wife, Tina Marie Trahan Nugier; and brothers, Ted Nugier and Richard Brien Nugier, Jr.

Brittany Broussard selected Erath High Teacher of the Year

Brittany Broussard was selected as the Erath High Teacher of the Year this year.
EHS Principal Marc Turner stated on facebook, "Mrs. Brittany brings her tech savvy expertise to our EHS campus. She is the mastermind behind the tweaks of Google Classroom for us, she is a student favorite, and is always willing to go the extra mile for everyone."

Nicole Toups named the Erath Middle Teacher of the Year

Nicole Toups was recently named the Erath Middle Teacher of the Year!
She has been teaching in Vermilion Parish for 24 years, 18 of which have been in Erath. (2 years at Dozier Elementary, 16 at Erath Middle School). She also taught several years at Eaton Park Elementary.
She is married to John Toups; and they have three children Alec, Jack, and Julia Toups. Nicole is the daughter of Tommy and Rachel Picard and Marcus and Melanie Hebert.

Christian Green

Abbeville officers book man after shots fired

​On Nov. 17, 2020 at approximately 8 p.m., officers of the Abbeville Police Department responded to the Walmart parking lot in reference to shots being fired in the area.
The responding officers located a witness who advised them that they observed two subjects fighting in the parking lot, and a third subject exited the vehicle and fired two rounds from a handgun toward the ground near one of the subjects after they stopped fighting.
​Patrol officers, while still on the scene, were advised that people were at the Abbeville Police Department to report that the suspect had shot at them. Patrol officers were able to determine that Christian Green of Abbeville had fired the weapon. Officers were able to contact Green via telephone, and Green agreed to turn himself in to the Abbeville Police Department.
Green arrived at the Abbeville Police Department, where he was booked on the two counts of Illegal Discharge of a Firearm. The firearm that Green used in the incident was recovered and placed into evidence. Green was transported to the Vermilion Parish Correctional Center for holding.

Clara Chatelain Hebert

December 31, 1950 - November 8, 2020

With a deep sense of loss but also great hope, we announce the death of Clara Chatelain Hebert, 69. A memorial mass will be celebrated by Fathers Matthew Bazarre, Randy Moreau, and Keith Landry on Friday, November 20, 2020, at 10:00 am, preceded by a rosary at 9:30 am, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Cow Island. The church will open at 9:00 am.
Clara’s loving, generous spirit will be remembered in the hearts and minds of everyone she interacted with in her family, church, nursing career, and also endeared friends and acquaintances .
She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Ronald Hebert; son Timothy Hebert (Kayla); grandchildren Matthew, Dylan, and Leah Hebert; a great-grandson Carter McAlister; and her brother David Chatelain. She was preceded in death by her son Dwayne Michael Hebert and her parents Clarence and Madeline Delahousse Chatelain.
The family would like to thank Dr. Daniel J. Frey for his wonderful and tireless care.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to St. Ann’s Catholic Church.
