Louisiana Cattle Festival Queens Pageant is fast approaching
The Louisiana Cattle Festival Queens Pageant is quickly approaching, and the Festival’s Board of Directors and Festival Members would like to invite the community to participate in the chance for a remarkable year-long opportunity.
The pageant will be held in the Abbeville High School auditorium on Saturday, May 3, 2025, for ages 5-24 and older. The following day and in the same location, on Sunday, May 4, 2025, the baby pageant for girls and boys of ages 0-4 years old will be held. The deadline to submit pageant entry forms is next Wednesday, February 30 for ages 5-24 and older, and Friday, May 2 for all baby divisions.
“While the pageant is a great opportunity for forming friendships and representing yourself as a contestant, being crowned a Louisiana Cattle Festival Queen or King is so much more than that. It provides a year-long reign of traveling but also engaging our local communities to promote our festival and the hardworking cattle producers and industry personnel which our festival celebrates, and the beautiful city of Abbeville. We are looking forward to celebrating our 75th festival and working alongside our new royalty to revive traditions and introduce new, exciting, family-friendly events,” says Louisiana Cattle Festival President, Karen Guilbeau.
While the time is drawing near to crown new royalty, the Louisiana Cattle Festival and Fair Association would like to first endlessly thank, honor and applaud the phenomenal reigns of 74th LA Cattle Queen, Morgan Landry, and her “royal herd” including Alex Downey, Baby Cattle Queen, Baylor Hebert, Baby Cattle King, Remi Joiner, Petite Cattle Queen, Ava Alleman, Deb Cattle Queen, Annah-Louise Gary, Junior Cattle Queen, Olivia Bourque, Teen Cattle Queen, and Alison Pisani, Ms. Cattle Queen.

Lacey Perro
Perro allegedly involved in another shooting
According to Sheriff Eddie Langlinais, on April 23, at approximately 11:20 p.m., Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division responded to a drive-by shooting that took place on South John Hardy Drive in Abbeville.
Upon arriving, Deputies learned that the house was struck multiple times by gunfire. No injuries were reported as a result of this incident. Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office Detectives were then requested and arrived shortly after, to begin a thorough investigation.
While on scene, Detectives learned that the Abbeville Police Department had also responded to a location in Abbeville approximately 15 minutes after the drive-by shooting on S. John Hardy, where it was reported that an unidentified black female conducted a shooting and .40 caliber spent casings were recovered from the scene.
Sheriff’s Office Detectives obtained evidence, helping Abbeville Police to identify a likely suspect for the drive-by shooting on South John Hardy Drive, as Lacey Perro, 32, of Kaplan.
On April 24, VPSO Detectives began attempting to locate Perro, and with the assistance of the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office Real Time Crime Center and the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office Intelligence Support Unit, Perro’s vehicle was identified operating in the city limits of Abbeville.
At approximately 10 a.m., Sheriff’s Office Detectives conducted a traffic stop on South East Street, near Martin Luther King Drive, of a Nissan Altima registered to Ms. Perro, after observing the operator of the vehicle making a traffic infraction.
Perro was identified as the driver and initially refused to exit the vehicle. Sheriff’s Office Detectives requested additional units from the Abbeville Police Department and the Vermilion
Parish Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Task Force. After several minutes, Ms. Perro surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident. After clearing the vehicle of all passengers, evidence that a shooting had taken place was observed in plain view. The vehicle was seized and upon obtaining a search warrant, more evidence was located inside of the vehicle.
Perro was transported to the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division to be interviewed by Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office and Abbeville Police Department Detectives. During the interview process, Ms. Perro confirmed to Detectives that she had conducted both shootings on the night of April 23.
Perro was later booked into the Vermilion Parish Correctional Center for the following charges:
• Assault by Drive-by Shooting (6 counts)
• Illegal Possession of a Stolen Firearm
• Aggravated Criminal Damage to Property
• PWITD Marijuana
• Possession of Methamphetamine
• Illegal Carrying of a Firearm while in Control of Dangerous Substances
• Proceeds from Drug Offenses
• Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
Sheriff Eddie Langlinais would also like to commend the men and women involved in bringing closure to this case. Sheriff Langlinais said, "When law enforcement agencies come together, their collaboration becomes a powerful force for safety and justice. By sharing resources, expertise, and intelligence, they amplify their ability to protect and serve their communities. The working relationship between the Vermilion Parish Sheriff's Office Patrol and Investigations Divisions, the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office, and the Abbeville Police Departmentdemonstrates a commitment to unity, trust, and a shared mission to uphold the law. Together, these agencies show that teamwork and mutual support can make a profound difference in building stronger, safer neighborhoods."
Sheriff Eddie Langlinais reminds the citizens of Vermilion Parish that this is an ongoing investigation, and all suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.
