Erath Bobcats to face No 1. Sterlington

JT Langlinais would not be denied at the plate on Saturday, picking up four hits and leading the Erath Bobcats to a 19-7 win over West Feliciana.
The Bobcats won the best two-out-of-three series and will advance to the third round where they will travel to meet No. 1 Sterlington.
The first game of the best two-out-three series will be Friday at 6 p.m. The next games will be Saturday.
This will be the second year the Bobcats face a number one team in the quarterfinals. Last year Erath fell to No. 1 Brusly two games to one.

Moving on: North Vermilion Lady Patriots have easy time in 1st round

The North Vermilion Lady Patriots advanced to the second round of the Class 3A softball playoffs after crushing first round opponent Church Point, 16-1, on Monday.
No. 4 North Vermilion will play the winner of the No. 13 Westlake/No. 20 Patterson winner. North Vermilion got things started in the first inning. North Vermilion scored one run on a stolen base.
North Vermilion tallied seven runs in the third inning. Kaylee Lopez, Amie Vincent and Jodi Broussard powered the big inning with RBIs.

Abbeville pole vaulter signs track scholarship with Northwestern State

Northwestern State University is becoming the place to go for Abbeville High School athletes.
Former AHS athletes who signed athletic scholarships to Northwestern are Janae Allen and Rechelle Bessard, both in track and Jason O’Brien signed for football.
The newest NSU from Abbeville High is Annmarie Broussard.
On Friday, Broussard signed a track scholarship to attend Northwestern State University in Natchitoches. When she graduates Abbeville this year, she will leave as the best female pole vaulter from the school. Her personal best vault is 12 feet high.

Kaplan High 3-peats as parish champs

The Kaplan Pirates and the Lady Pirates took care of business on Wednesday by sweeping the Vermilion Parish Track and Field Meet.
Each school won the meet by at least 20 points.
It is the third year in a row that both the Kaplan boys and girls win the track meet.
In the field events, Rylie Frick got 20 points for Kaplan after winning the discus and shot put. Frick was co-top field athlete on the night.
Things picked up for the Lady Pirates on the track.

Suire is expected to run track for UNO next year.

Suire gunning for Erath school records

Erath High’s Ethan Suire is on a mission to break a couple of school records that has avoided him for four years.
Suire is a distance runner for the Bobcats, who wants to break the school record in the 800-meter run and the 1,600-meter run.
Brennan Bernard owns the EHS 800-meter record at 1:57.71 set in 2001. Cody Bouillion owns the school record of 2:23.73 in the 1600 set in 2005.
With the school records on his mind, Suire took his running to the next level by running at larger meets.
