‘Mo’ doing well at Bossier

BOSSIER - The best female basketball player to put on an Erath High School uniform is having success with her new team.
Monet “Mo” Bolden lit up the score board at Erath High for three years. Today, she is playing basketball at Bossier Parish Community College.
Bolden is a starter at the junior college and averaging 13 points, four rebounds and four assists a game over the last 13 games.
She is also the only freshman to start and has started in 11 out of 13 games this season.

For the third year in a row, the Kaplan Pirates have a Vermilion Parish MVP.
Two years ago the Pirates had Julius Johnson rush for 2,000 yards and earned the Offensive MVP in the parish.
Last year Johnson led the parish in tackles and was named the Defensive MVP in the parish.
Well, in 2017, the Kaplan Pirates swept the parish MVP awards.
Mac Thibeaux, who made the parish first team as a running back last year, was selected the Parish Offensive MVP this year.

North Vermilion Lady Patriots, Vermilion Catholic Eagles win Vermilion Parish Tournament

The two teams who won this year’s, and possibly last year’s, Parish Tournament are not the normal team to win the parish tournament.
The Vermilion Catholic boys, the No. 3 seed, stunned the No. 1 Abbeville 58-37 in the finals, while the No. 1 seed North Vermilion Lady Patriots beat No. 3 Kaplan 41-32 in the finals.
The Lady Patriots had not won the parish since 2009, and it has been at least 10 years and possibly longer since the Eagles won the parish tournament.
The Eagles, who are now 7-0, whipped the Wildcats playing team ball.

Vermilion Parish Tournament Bracket released for this week

On Sunday night, the parish basketball coaches voted on who were going to be the top seven seeds.
On the girls side, North Vermilion, who is 6-0, got the No. 1 seed and will draw a bye on Thursday.
On the boys side, Abbeville received the No. 1 seed and also got a bye.
The tournament will be held at North Vermilion High gym and North Vermilion Middle School gym.
It will begin on Thursday and conclude on Saturday in the NV High School gym.
The cost is $6 and each person will be given a bracelet, letting them go in both gyms.
