The Kaplan Lady Pirates season is off to a strong start.

11-0: Kaplan Lady Pirates getting it done on offense and defense

KAPLAN - The Kaplan Lady Pirates are 11-0 on the year and are ranked No. 1 in the latest Class 3A power rankings,
They are getting it done with the combination of pitching, defense and hitting.
In the 11 wins, Kaplan is averaging 12 points a game. They scored a season-high 19 runs twice and 18 runs once. The least amount of runs they scored is 7 in an 7-0 win over Loreauville.

Romero new softball coach at Abbeville High

Meghan Romero is not afraid of a challenge.
After all, after graduating from UL-Lafayette with an education degree, Romero and her boyfriend decided to move to Colorado, where they lived for five years. She taught school and coached different sports while in Colorado.
A combination of her boyfriend’s mother dying and Romero getting homesick was enough to pull them back to Louisiana.

1,049 wins and counting: Meaux High grad now ranks as the 10th winningest high school coach in the United States

For 38 years, Danny Broussard has been the head basketball coach at St. Thomas More High School (STM) and has won an incredible 1,049 games.
Broussard, 61, is now the 10th winningest boys high school basketball head coach in the nation.
“All those wins mean I am old as dirt,” said Broussard, who laughed. “It is an honor to be on the list with these legendary coaches.”
Broussard could move into ninth place with six more wins. Morgan Gilbert of Tyronza Bay High School has 1,055 wins and is in ninth place.

Mother Nature not being nice

It is now Mother Nature causing fits for the No. 4 North Vermilion Patriots’ Soccer Team.
This season the Patriots have had to deal with the challenges from COVID-19. They managed to win 15 games and advanced to the quarterfinals.
Now, the Patriots have to deal with Mother Nature because she is making it a challenge for the Patriots to play their next round against the No. 5 E.D. White Cardinals.

Lady Eagles have easy time with Covenant

The Vermilion Catholic Lady Eagles had an easy time with Covenant Christian on Wednesday night.
The Lady Eagles cruised to a 52-20 win.
Ava Hebert led with 18 points and Kinsley Sellers scored all 12 of her points in the second half. Karli Frith had nine and Kyrah Brailey chipped in seven points.
VC has one final game left of the regular season. Tonight, VC entertains Centerville (3-15).
