Vermilion Parish has the number one school district in Acadiana, according to a national website.

Web site ranks Vermilion School district as best in Acadiana; sixth best in the state

Once again, a national website has recognized Vermilion Parish School District as having the best school district in Acadiana and the sixth-best district in the state.
Niche.com released its 2020 Best School Districts list based on the data supplied to them by the U.S. Department of Education.
The website gave Vermilion Parish School District an A-minus grade.
In the Acadiana region, Lafayette Parish was second with a B grade, and Acadia Parish was third with also a B grade. Iberia Parish was fourth with a B minus grade.

It is against the law to park along the side of parish roads.

Vermilion Parish Police Jury looking at 'cleaning up' parking along side of road ordinance

The Vermilion Parish Police Jury is looking into simplifying the law of parking along side parish roads outside of the city limits.
Around eight to 10 years ago, the police jury adopted a law that says no one can park along side a parish road with the exceptions of farmers, emergency personnel, church services, funerals or an emergency.

Coastal Day held in Intracoastal City

INTRACOASTAL CITY - On Tuesday, the Vermilion Coastal Projection and Restoration Committee hosted the second annual Vermilion Parish Coastal Day in Intracoastal City.
According to studies, if nothing is done to stop erosion or create a coastal projection, 17 percent of the parish’s coastline could be lost in the next 50 years. 
If nothing is done, storm surges will continue to rise over the next 50 years. Vermilion Bay is losing wetlands at a rate of 8 feet per day.

Wildlife and Fisheries Commission reduces alligator tag fee for 2 years

The Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission approved a notice of intent (NOI) to reduce the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) alligator hide tag fee from $4 to $3 for the 2020 and 2021 calendar years during its August meeting Thursday (Aug. 1) in New Orleans.

School Board member Kibbie Pillette

Vermilion Parish School Board vice president says Abbeville police would have removed Puyau had he been ‘a black man’

Vermilion Parish School Board Vice President Kibbie Pillette made a comment on TV accusing the Abbeville Police Department of not doing its job when it comes to arresting Superintendent Jerome Puyau.
On Friday, there was a small demonstration in front of the School Board Central Office. A group of fewer than 10 people gathered to draw attention to the fact that Puyau is going to work despite being put on administrative leave by the school board.
At the demonstration, School Board President Laura LeBeouf and Pillette were in the parking lot at the central office.
