Kaplan Police Chief turns himself in to La. State Police

Kaplan Police Chief Boyd Adams turned himself in Monday morning to the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office after a warrant was issued for his arrest by the Louisiana State Police.
Adams was charged with malfeasance in office and felony theft.
These charges stem from a state audit which questioned whether Kaplan Police Chief Boyd Adams used nearly $7,650 in public funds to pay personal expenses, drawing some of that money from two police department bank accounts city officials say they did not know existed.

Vermilion Catholic’s Taylor Schaefer named Kiwanis Student of the Month

The Kiwanis Club of Abbeville selects one student each month to recognize for outstanding work being done inside and outside of school.
The club kicked off the new school year with a student who has put in plenty of work, to say the least.
The Kiwanis Club honored Vermilion Catholic senior Taylor Schaefer as the September Student of the Month Tuesday afternoon during its weekly meeting.
“I’m so excited to be here,” Schaefer told the Kiwanians. “It really is an honor.”

Abbeville Council votes on ordinance to deter drivers from going through high flood water

What the remainder of hurricane season will bring to Abbeville is unknown.
One thing will soon be certain, whenever there is a storm that produces heavy rains, those who go recklessly through high water on roads in the city will be issued a citation.
The Abbeville City Council voted 5-0 during a committee meeting Tuesday evening to move forward with an ordinance that will allow the Abbeville Police Department to ticket people who go around barricades that block flooded roads as well as drivers who produce wakes that can damage property.

A truck plowed into the front of this house in Delcambre on Friday. Two days later, the house caught on fire and was destroyed.

Miguez family deals with truck running into house; house catching on fire three times

DELCAMBRE - You thought you had a rough five days worrying about Hurricane Harvey, think again.
Todd and Autumn Miguez of Delcambre had one of the roughest five days one could ever go through.
It all began Friday afternoon when a truck drove into a front room of their house, which is almost 100 yards off of Main Street.
The young driver missed three oak trees and plowed right into a front bed room. No one was in the bed room at the time. The driver was not injured
The truck had to be pulled out of the house.
