Candidates qualify for political office in Vermilion Parish

On Wednesday, several candidates signed up as qualifying for the Nov. 6 elections.
Qualifying will end Friday afternoon. Those interested in qualifying can do so Today until 4:30 p.m. in Vermilion Parish Clerk of Court Diane Meaux Broussard’s office. That office is located on the first floor of the Vermilion Parish Courthouse in downtown Abbeville.
Elections will include each of the eight district seats on the Vermilion Parish School Board.

School Board already looking at $1 million shortfall 17 days into year

Only 17 days into the new budget year, and Vermilion Parish School Board members learned things are not too rosy when it comes down to finances.
Chief Financial Officer Eric Jonson presented a preliminary projected revenue and expenditures summary to the school board members at Monday’s committee meeting.
The board members learned from Johnson’s findings, that, if nothing is done, the projected budget is on pace to be at least $1 million short in the 2018-19 school year.
