I am currently the Councilman for District C and would love to be given the opportunity to continue to serve the great city of Kaplan and more importantly the wonderful people of District C. Together we can make Kaplan a better place and move forward with improvements.

The Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office is looking for a suspect in an Armed Robbery on Sept. 4.

Sheriff’s Office investigating armed robbery in Indian Bayou

On Sept. 4, at approximately 9:02 p.m., the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office received a call in reference to an Armed Robbery at the Dollar General located on La. 700 in the community of Indian Bayou.
Sheriff Mike Couvillon says that information obtained by officers at the scene indicate that at approximately 8:50 p.m., a male subject approximately 5 feet 7 inches, 160 pounds, unknown race, entered the store wearing what appears to be a white jump suit, gloves and some type of clothing covering his face.

LOUISIANA MAN ARRESTED AFTER INTENSE MULTISTATE INVESTIGATION

QUITMAN, Texas — Thanks to a five-month investigation by Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association (TSCRA) Special Rangers and Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry (LDAF) Brand Inspectors, a Louisiana man is behind bars on three felony cattle theft charges out of Texas.
TSCRA Special Rangers Larry Hand and Bo Fox were in Louisiana Tuesday as LDAF brand inspectors arrested Justin Glenn Thompson, 40, of Hineston. Thompson was subsequently booked into the St. Landry Parish Jail where he remains while awaiting extradition to Texas.

Driver Killed in Two-Vehicle Crash in Iberia Parish

NEW IBERIA – Shortly after 3 p.m. on Sept. 3, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop I began investigating a two-vehicle crash on LA 14 at Claude Viator Road in Iberia Parish.
The crash ultimately took the life of 83-year-old Joyce Falgout of New Iberia.
The initial investigation by State Police revealed Falgout was driving a 2005 Ford Escape when she failed to yield at a stop sign to oncoming traffic as she entered LA 14 from Claude Viator Rd. Falgout’s vehicle was struck in the westbound travel lane by a 2018 Audi Q5 SUV.

Group founded by Abbeville native makes fundraising commitment to St. Jude

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (Aug. 14, 2019) – Sky High for Kids recently announced a $20 million naming commitment at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital for a research floor in the new Advanced Research Center on the St. Jude campus that will open in 2021.
The organization, which has helped raise over $5 million for St. Jude since 2007, will continue its fundraising commitment over the next 13 years to support and further the mission of St. Jude: Finding cures. Saving children® by advancing progress in the battle against childhood cancer.
