Early voting starts Saturday

Early voting for the Oct. 12 election will begin this Saturday, Sept. 28.
It will run each day through Saturday, Oct. 5, with the exception of Sunday, Sept. 29. Early voting can be done on each of those days, from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., in Vermilion Parish Registrar of Voters Mike Bertand’s office. His office is located on the first floor of the Vermilion Parish Courthouse in downtown Abbeville.
On the ballot for Vermilion Parish Sheriff will be incumbent Mike Couvillon and challenger Lance Broussard.

Congressman Higgins to host outreach clinic in Abbeville for veterans

On Monday, Sept. 30 in Abbeville, Congressman Clay Higgins' office will host the fifth of six planned veterans outreach clinics scheduled across the 10 parishes that he serves.
Veterans will be encouraged to ask questions and seek assistance regarding a variety of benefits and VA issues.
The clinic will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Magdalen Place in downtown Abbeville.

Southern Oaks is the only golf course in Vermilion Parish.

Southern Oaks Country Club to tee up in Vermilion Parish

Southern Oaks Country Club, an 18-hole public golf course and country club located in Abbeville, Louisiana, will bring back the sport of golf to those in Vermilion Parish and surrounding areas.
The course will be where the well-established golf course, Vermilion Country Club, and later Vermilion Oaks, was once located, which closed in 2017 after 88 years in business.

Lance Broussard

Lance Broussard seeking to become Sheriff for new direction, future for Vermilion Parish

ln his 35 years with the Vermilion Parish Sheriffs Office, Capt. Lance Broussard worked as a corrections officer, patrol deputy, detective, K-9 officer, and DARE instructor. He was part of US Customs Blue Lightning, LA Sheriffs Association Task Force, Marine and Aircraft Smuggling, Drug Interdiction programs, a Rescue Diver, and worked from Texas to Mississippi fighting crime. He was a hands-on worker here in Vermilion Parish, and he will be a hands-on leader as your sheriff.

I, Mike “MJ” Landry, am seeking election to the Vermilion Parish Police Jury in District 12.
I have been a resident of Kaplan and District 12 for more than 30 years.
I attended Indian Bayou and Kaplan High School.
I have 12 years of law enforcement experience. I have 15 years of experience with Baroid.
I am married to Tony Istre Landry. We have six children.
My goal is to improve water drainage, roads, trash service and to make our parish better.
