Abbeville Police Department launches new website, offering more ways to provide anonymous tips

Technology helps bring us all closer together, making the world a smaller place.
Abbeville Chief of Police Bill Spearman is using technology to help bring citizens and the department closer together to make the city a safer place.
The Abbeville Police Department has launched a new web page, www.abbevillepd.com. Through the page, citizens can locate information on each of the officers with the department as well as supervisors of each department within the APD.

Vermilion Parish School Board new appointments

The Vermilion Parish School Board approved new appointments during its meeting on Thursday.

Appointments:

Dion Dubois; Location: JH Williams Middle; Position: MS Math Teacher; Effective Date: February 7, 2019-May 25, 2019 only; Replaces: Alis Comeaux who resigned.

Gerard “Jude” Dubois (RRTW); Location: JH Williams Middle; Position: MS Math Teacher; Effective Date: February 11, 2019-May 25, 2019 only; Replaces: Nerissa Carr who resigned.

Bats were found in Gueydan High in late January.

Gueydan High’s bat incident has costly update

Monday nights’ School Board committe meeting received a report on the cost of the battle of the bats at Gueydan High School earlier this year.
The overall cost to remove the bats cost the School Board $40,000.
Kerry Richard, Facilities Manager for the VPSB, presented the report before the board and began with many thanks to his team and to Gueydan High’s principal.

$7,500 reward offered for information on shooting of endangered

Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) Enforcement Division agents are looking for leads regarding an endangered whooping crane that was shot in Acadia Parish.
The crane was found with a wounded wing on Nov. 2, 2018 between Crowley and Rayne off of Monceaux Rd. The crane was taken to a vet where it had to be put down due to its injuries. The crane was then sent in for a necropsy where it was determined to have been shot in the wing.
