Vermilion Parish School Board hears plan that would create French Immersion program for 2019-’20 school year

On Monday, the Vermilion Parish School Board held a committee meeting, discussing several changes that may come to schools in the parish.
The highlight of the meeting focused on considering approval for proceeding with opening a French Immersion kindergarten class in Vermilion Parish, beginning with the 2019-2020 school year.
Ellen Arceneaux prepared a detailed presentation on the program after doing much research and visiting schools that have the program already.

Catch basin grates being stolen in Vermilion Parish

Metal thieves are putting you in danger and costing you money by stealing catch basin grates and manhole covers.
More than 50 have gone missing in Vermilion Parish in the last month. When one disappears it leaves a big opening for a deep hole. The Vermilion Parish Police Jury has to spend big bucks to replace them.
The police jury is asking the community and salvage yards to help stop these costly and dangerous thefts.
For the last month, bold thieves are riding around the parish and taking catch basin grates.
On Thursday one was stolen in Abbeville.

Abbeville receives $800,000 for sewer system

It is nice to share, but, let’s be honest, it’s really nice to sometimes get a big piece of the pie.
The City of Abbeville can relish in that feeling.
Mayor Mark Piazza announced at the most recent City Council meeting that the city has been awarded funds from the Louisiana Community Development Block Grant (LCDBG) program. The city will receive $800,000 for sewer improvements.

Second Annual Spirit Fest celebrates Faith in community

The Christian Service Center recently hosted their 2nd Annual Spirit Fest.
It’s a special event that welcomes the whole community, regardless of what faith community a person belongs to ...or does not belong to.
It was a day where multiple pastors from various denominations gathered for prayer, worship, a testimony from former NFL player Brandon Mitchell. Pastor Lane Payne and his worship team led a portion of the day. Pastor Molly Magee from Abbeville United

Delcambre to compete in state’s ‘Cleanest City Contest’

DELCAMBRE — The Town of Delcambre will be competing in the Louisiana Garden Club Federation, Inc. State Cleanest City Contest.
Delcambre competed in the LGCF District III Cleanest City Contest on Tuesday, April 3, 2018.
District III Cleanest City Contest Chairmen Gwen Lanoux and Patsy Hebert stated that, “Delcambre entered the District III Contest for the first time.
“The judges were impressed with the overall cleanliness of the town and the extent of civic pride and community involvement.”
