Felicita Wilhelm and Christopher Vidrine exchange vows at their surprise wedding

Felicita Wilhelm of Abbeville, Louisiana and Christopher Vidrine of Youngsville, Louisiana were united in marriage on Saturday, May 22, 2021, in the Rose Garden at the home of the brides parents in Abbeville, Louisiana. Officiating the 7:00 p.m. ceremony was Rachel Wilhelm, cousin of the bride.
Felicita is the daughter of Edward and Susan Wilhelm of Abbeville, Louisiana. She is the maternal granddaughter of the late Edison and Greta Ortego of Denham Springs and the paternal granddaughter of the late Edward and Irene Wilhelm of Abbeville.
A 2008 graduate of the Academy of the Sacred Heart in Grand Coteau, the bride attended LSU and UL graduating from UL with an Environmental Science Degree and is currently enrolled at the American University of the Caribbean Medical School.
Christpher is the son of Brian and Melissa Vidrine of Lafayette, Louisiana. He is the paternal grandson of Ronal and Theresa Vidrine and the maternal grandson of Michael and Janis Midkiff of St. Louis, Missouri and the late Shirley Midkiff.
A 2005 graduate of Northwest High School, Christopher attended LSU and is employed by Thibodeaux Electric.
Escorted by her father, the bride’s dress was purchased exclusively at A-Net’s Bridal Boutique. The Crepe gown was a sheath silhouette with a higher neckline. It was accented with a lace applique throughout the entire bodice and covering the sheer illlusion back. The dress was completed with covered buttons down the back and lace applique at the end of the train. As a final touch, she wore a ‘something borrowed’ cathedral length veil worn by her mother on her wedding day over 33 years ago. The head piece was embellished with tear drop pearl beading.
The bride chose a rustic hand wrapped bouquet of fresh snapdragons, larkspur, roses, carnations, mum daisies, Queen Anne’s Lace and baby’s breath.
Bridesmaids included Kallie C. Miller, Jillian F. Mouledous, Meaghan L. Winston, Jessica M. Ardoin, Cherie E. Goff, Taylor Stokes and Ryan Pinkerton. They wore individual styles of white and ivory mid-length dresses, personally selected by each attendant.
Attending as flower girl was Vivian Vidrine, daughter of the groom. She wore an ivory dress with High-Low hem designed with pink and green floral applique. Headpieces were also worn made by the mother of the bride which included baby’s breath intertwined with pink spray roses and sheer pink ribbon.
Serving as Groomsmen were Jordan Vidrine, Logan Thibodeaux, Adam Glover, Michael Lanclos, Devin Moreau and John Cramer.
Serving as Ring Bearer was Genevieve Vidrine, daughter of the groom. She wore an ivory dress with High-Low hem with pink and green floral applique.
Following the ceremony, a reception was held in the barn at the home of Ed and Susan Wilhelm where they served boiled crawfish and shrimp, fried fish and chicken tenders as well as chicken and sausage jambalaya with a variety of sweets.
The family’s working barn was transformed with an eclectic mix of string lights and chandeliers. A comfy sofa made of hay bales was one of the centerpieces. Casual fresh flowers filled available corners and tabletops. A fun background for the wedding cake framed the wedding party.
The bride’s cake was 3 stacks of naked red velvet cake adorned with greenery and wildflowers placed on logs and was made by Linda Choate. The groom’s cake was a chocolate cake with Bavarian chocolate filling, dressed with soccer items of whistle, referee cards and a small soccer ball.
The couple plan to reside in Abbeville, Louisiana.

North Vermilion’s Touchet, Kaplan’s Marceaux earn MVP honors

Two Vermilion Parish athletes had breakout seasons
First, a 5-8, junior baseball player missed most of his sophomore season due to COVID-19. In John Touchet’s first full varsity season, he helped the North Vermilion Patriots win a Class 4A state baseball title by posting an 11-0 record on the hill.
Then, up the road, a freshman shortstop burst onto the scene for the Kaplan Lady Pirates. Fortunately for Kaplan, this shortstop did not play or hit like a rookie.
Kennedy Marceaux showed she was no ordinary freshman by putting up numbers that a freshman never sees in these parts.
She led the team with a .630 batting average to go along with her 18 home runs and 52 runs batted in.
In 108 at-bats, she struck out only one time.
Because of their outstanding season, Marceaux and Touchet were selected as the Vermilion Parish’s MVPs.
Abbeville General sponsored the plaques given to them.
Marceaux, who has already begun to draw interest in college softball programs, has a softball skill level compared to former Kaplan second baseman Courtney Hollier 13 years ago.
Kaplan head softball coach Brittney LeBeouf recognized Marceaux’s talent level and did not fear naming her the starting shortstop as a freshman.
“Her knowledge of the game makes her a huge asset to our team,” said LeBeouf. “She was a game-changer at the plate because she was so consistent, a threat on the bases being able to steal bases, and being extremely aggressive. In addition, her ability to make plays on defense is outstanding.
“She is an all-around player who will continue

Edwin W. Edwards

Former Louisiana Gov. EDWIN EDWARDS ENTERS HOSPICE CARE

LSN STAFF REPORT

Edwin Edwards, the four-term governor who became the face of Louisiana politics for more than a generation, entered hospice care Monday night, according to a statement from his family.
Edwards, 93, made the decision after a trip by ambulance to St. Elizabeth Hospital near his Gonzales home.
Edwards, a former Navy pilot, congressman, state senator and governor, had complained of significant pain in his right lung.
“His blood oxygen and blood pressure were both low,” said his wife Trina Edwards, “and we made the decision to go the hospital out of an abundance of caution. His strength has been failing in recent weeks but Edwin has always rallied back in the past and we’re praying for that again.”
Physicians at St. Elizabeth performed a battery of tests including X-rays and a CAT scan of both lungs but the tests revealed nothing, doctors said.
“But since I have been in and out of hospitals in recent years with pneumonia and other respiratory problems, causing a lot of people a lot of trouble, I have decided to retain the services of qualified hospice doctors and nurses at my home,” Edwards said in the family statement.
“While people assume that hospice means I’m dying, I assure everyone it’s simply a matter of good and convenient care that is less trouble for everybody. I’ve made no bones that I have considered myself on borrowed time for 20 years and we each know that all this fun has to end at some point.
“But it won’t be anytime soon for me. In fact, I am planning my 95th birthday party for next summer and hope you’ll come.”
Edwards is Louisiana’s only four-term governor, serving from 1972-80; 1984-88; and 1992-96.
Born in Marksville in Avoyelles Parish during the Great Flood of 1927, in 1944, Edwards joined the U.S. Navy when he was 17 and became a pilot. His squadron was deploying to the Pacific Theater when Japan surrendered, ending World War II.
Edwards graduated from LSU Law School in 1949, served two terms as a Crowley City Councilman in Acadia Parish; one term in the Louisiana Senate as a floor leader for governor John McKeithen; one term in Congress; and four terms as governor.
He will turn 94 Aug. 7.

Unrestrained Woman Killed in Late Evening Crash in Vermilion Parish

VERMILION PARISH – Shortly after 11 p.m. on July 4, 2021, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop I were notified of a single-vehicle fatal crash on Louisiana Highway 82 near Ranch Road in Vermilion Parish. The crash took the life of 36-year-old Kelly B. Desormeaux of Prairieville.
The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Desormeaux was driving east on LA 82 in a 2007 Honda Accord. For unknown reasons, Desormeaux’s vehicle ran off the roadway to the left. After leaving the roadway, the Accord entered a ditch and overturned several times causing Desormeaux to be ejected from the vehicle.
Desormeaux was unrestrained at the time of the crash. She was pronounced dead at the scene by the Vermilion Parish Coroner’s Office. Impairment is unknown but a standard toxicology sample was obtained for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists that, while not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired and always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained can often mean the difference between life and death.
Troop I has investigated 29 fatal crashes resulting in 36 deaths in 2021.
