Madge Leblanc

DELCAMBRE – A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted for Mrs. Nedier Joseph LeBlanc, Jr., the former Madge LeBlanc, age 81, at 11:00 a.m. Thursday July 12th, 2018 at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church with Fr. Thomas Voorhies officiating. Interment will follow at Our Lady of the Lake Mausoleum.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until time of service at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church.
A resident of Delcambre, LA, Madge passed away peacefully at home on Monday, July 9, 2018 surrounded by her family.
Madge lived her entire life trusting in the Lord, sharing her faith, and serving the church. Her trust in the Lord was evident in the acceptance of her terminal diagnosis as God’s will. She prayed not for herself but for others, as she spoke so courageously, “Jesus you died for the love of me and I will die for the love of you.” Madge not only lived her faith, but shared her faith. She instilled Catholic values in her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Madge was not only a loving wife and mother, but she spent much of her time serving the church. She and her late husband, Junior, were recognized by the Diocese of Lafayette with the Devoted Service Award.
She is survived by one son, Ned LeBlanc and his wife Margie of Lafayette; three daughters, Carey L. Laviolette and husband Kirk of Delcambre; Cindy L. Segura and husband Kent of Broussard and Annette L. Franques and husband Howard of Dallas, TX; seven grandchildren, Kal Laviolette and wife Candace; Laurie L. Hoxmeier and husband Mark; Marcus Segura and wife Kayla; Matthew Franques; Claire Franques; Andrew LeBlanc and Katherine LeBlanc; seven great grandchildren; one brother, Tommy LeBlanc and wife Nancy of Houston, TX and her sister in law, Judy LeBlanc of Lafayette.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Nedier Joseph LeBlanc, Jr.; parents, Fred Joseph and Lou Elise Landry LeBlanc and one brother, Warner LeBlanc.
Pallbearers will be Kal Laviolette, Marcus Segura, Matthew Franques, Andrew LeBlanc, Tommy LeBlanc, Kirk LeBlanc and Bert Baudoin.
Memorial donations may be made in her name to Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, 206 West Church Street, Delcambre, LA 70528.

Lavonne Faye Heaton

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, July 12, 2018 in the Delhomme Funeral Home of Maurice for Mrs. Lavonne Faye Heaton, 87, who passed away on July 7, 2018.
Burial will take place in St. Alphonsus Cemetery.
Mrs. Heaton, a resident of Houston, was the daughter of the late Oliver Lafayette Wiser and the former Jessie Louella Armstrong. She was a member of the Church of Christ, enjoyed reading, bowling, and fishing. Mrs. Heaton loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Gail H. Bellow and husband Terry, Ricky Heaton and wife Gail, Jana Lynn Heaton, Kristen Shelly Heaton; step-son, Shelby Lloyd Howell and wife Judy; grandchildren, Jonas Neal Bellow and wife Molly, Kimberly Suresh Barbier and husband Dreux, Dustin James Heaton, Aaron Paul Heaton; great grandchildren, Genevieve Wren Bellow, Lorelei Rose Bellow and Oliver Clark Barbier; two brothers, Jerry Albert Wiser and wife Peggy and Ronald D. Wiser and wife Mary.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Robert Ray Heaton; parents, brother, Buddy Eugene Wiser.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home- Maurice on Thursday, July 12, 2018 from 9:00 AM until time of the service.
Pallbearers will be Terry Bellow, Aaron Heaton, James R. Bellow, Jonas Bellow, Eric Chiasson and Michael Tripkovich.
The family would like to thank North Cypress Medical Center in Cypress, TX for the wonderful care and compassion given to Mrs. Heaton.

Nydia Richard Nunez

November 15, 1925 ~ July 8, 2018

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at an 11:00 AM on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church in Erath honoring the life of Nydia Richard Nunez, 92, who died Sunday, July 8, 2018 at Eastridge Assisted Living Center. She will be laid to rest at Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery with Fr. Andre Metrejean officiating the services. Pallbearers will be Randal Hebert, Jacob Nunez, Jansen Nunez, Sam Falcon, Thomas Pontiff and David Trahan.
Nydia began her career working at Lull Broussard Furniture Store in Abbeville where her and her husband Jay purchased the business and worked there until retirement. She enjoyed their camp in Pecan Island where she would crab and fish on a regular basis. Making friends all along the way. A dedicated wife, mother and grandmother she touched all our lives and will be greatly remembered and missed. Simple things in life made her very happy. She really enjoyed visiting with her sisters as they would sit and relive old times.
Nydia is survived by her son, Joseph “Jay” H. Nunez, Jr. and his wife, Jacqueline S. Nunez; two grandsons, Jacob L. Nunez and his wife Brianna B. Nunez, and Jansen M. Nunez; great granddaughter, Joslynn Nunez; and siblings, Rita Richard Mouton “Beb”, Mary Lou Richard “Mary”, Delton Louis Richard, Sr. “Tan” and Florence Evelia Richard Hebert “Jean”.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph “Jay” Nunez, Sr.; parents, Louis Richard and the former Nydia Chiasson; siblings, Wilton Joseph Richard “Will”, Delta Marie Richard Corner “Toot”, Laura Mae Richard Cabrol “Laur”, Rosalie Richard Meaux “Rose”, Pervis Joseph Richard “Shawee” and Alice Joyce Richard Falcon “Joyce”.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville, 209 S. St. Charles St., on Tuesday, July 10, 2018 from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a rosary being prayed at 7:00 PM; Wednesday, July 11, 2018 from 8:00 AM until 10:30 AM when the procession will depart for the church.

J. Calvin Vice

ERATH — A Mass of Christian Burial for J. Calvin Vice, 77, will be 2:30PM Wednesday July 11, 2018 in Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with Father Andre Metrejean officiating. Interment will follow in Our Lady of Lourdes Mausoleum.
Visitation will be in David Funeral Home of Erath Tuesday July 10, 2018 from 3:00PM until 9:00PM with recitation of the rosary at 7:00PM. Visitation will resume Wednesday from 8:00AM until service time.
Calvin, born in Abbeville and a resident of Erath, passed away Saturday July 7, 2018 in Carpenter House in Lafayette. He received his B.S. degree in education from McNeese State University in 1965. He then went to work teaching at St. Landry High School (now St. Louis High School) in Lake Charles. In 1966 he started teaching at Lafayette High School until 1969. In 1970 he came to Erath and taught, while working on, and receiving his Masters + 30 degree from McNeese in 1975, until he retired in 1997. After retirement he was a substitute teacher until 2015. He was also Asst. Coach for the girls basketball and track teams until 1987. He then became Clerk of Course for various Vermilion Parish school track meets.
Calvin is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary D. Vice; his children, Nanette V. Baudoin and husband Mark, Donna V. Prejean and husband Richard, and John Vice; his brother, Kirk Vice and wife Liz; his grandchildren, Taylor Baudoin, Hayden Prejean, and Rida Prejean.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Pressley and Rida Hebert Vice; and a brother Joseph Ridas Vice.

Sweet fundraiser: American Legion selling watermelons to support scholarship

The American Legion have been selling Sugar Town Watermelons since Sunday to raise money for their Scholarship Fund.
The Scholarship fund is something the Legion does annually, which this is one of many ways the public could help in creating this fund.
The Scholarship fund raises $2,000 and any extra money raised goes into the maintenance fund. If you would like to, you can do so by buying a watermelon or two at the American Legion Vermilion Post 29 building.
The building is located at 3319 Veterans Memorial Drive in Abbeville next to the Louisiana National Guard Armory.
Watermelons will be sold directly in front of the building and will be available until every watermelon is sold. The Legion and its’ members thank the public for participating in such a great cause.

Joseph Donald Badon

NEW IBERIA — Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, July 10, 2018, at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia for Joseph Donald Badon, 83, who passed away on Friday, July 6, 2018, in New Iberia.
Entombment will follow in Holy Family Cemetery.
Rev. Ed Degeyter will officiate.
A gathering of family and friends will be Monday from 4:00 pm until 9:00 pm at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia. A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 pm Monday. Visitation will continue on Tuesday from 8:00 am until 10:00 am.
A native of Cow Island, and a resident of New Iberia for 50 years, Mr. Badon was born on January 25, 1935 to the late Eustis and Ella Clostio Badon. He was a graduate of E. Broussard High School and SLI, now University of Louisiana Lafayette, and worked as an exploration geologist for Schlumberger and Union Oil of California (Unocal). After retirement, Mr. Badon worked as a geological consultant, and as well as starting an environmental testing company. He enjoyed quail hunting, and had a love for bird dogs, especially Brittany Spaniels.
Survivors include his son, Eamon Badon and wife Stephanie of New Iberia; and his grandchildren, Jack Badon, and Deanna Kilgore.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Mary Theresa Badon; daughter, Majella Badon Kilgore; brother, Huey Badon; and a sister, Shirley Guidry.
The family would like to give special thanks to Fr. Ed Degeyter for his visits, prayers, and spiritual guidance, and to Dr. Carl Ditch, MD, Dr. Shelly Savant, MD, Hope Health Care and Hospice, especially Beryl Dore, David Ditch and the staff of Home Instead Senior Care, especially Wanda Paillett for their extraordinary care and compassion.
