Vermilion Catholic baseball players honored

Seven Vermilion Catholic High baseball players were honored Monday night.
Vermilion Catholic joined other school districts across the state and nation by participating in the “Be the Light” campaign on Monday.
The lights at Sellers Field in Abbeville were turned on at 8 o’clock p.m. to honor the current VC baseball seniors, who had their season ruined due to the COVID-19 coronavirus.

This indoor season, Abbeville’s own Annmarie Broussard won her first indoor college meet, tied the school record at Northwestern State with a personal best vault of 13.9.25 and then ended the indoor season with a second place finish in the Southland Conference Meet. She is only a sophomore.

Broussard completes indoor season with 2nd place finish in Southland Conference meet

Northwestern State pole vaulter Annmarie Broussard, who is a sophomore, finished her sophomore indoor track and field season with an impressive second-place finish in the Southland Conference Indoor Meet.
Broussard, an Abbeville High graduate, took home second place with a vault of 13.25 feet high. First place went to Bizzell Kaylee of Stephen F. Austin. Her winning jump was 13-4 or two inches more than Broussard.
After Kaylee cleared 13-4 to take the lead, Broussard wanted to be pushed and skipped on the height of 13-4 and raised the bar to 13-8.

Vermilion Catholic hangs on to beat Assumption

The Vermilion Catholic Eagles jumped out to a 5-1 lead after two innings and held on to win 5-4 against Assumption
Assumption would score one run in the third, fourth, and seventh inning to make the game close.
VC only had five hits and committed three errors.
Mikie Bazar had two hits for VC. He hit a double and a triple, plus, he knocked in one run.
The Eagles needed four pitchers to shut down Assumption.
Pitcher Moe Maxile started the game and went four innings. He gave up seven hits and two earned runs for VC.

Erath's Gisclair throws perfect game

ERATH - Lexie Gisclair threw a gem on Monday to lead the Erath Lady Bobcats past Gueydan 12-0 with the rarest of softball moments: The Perfect Game.
She struck out eight and did not allow any Gueydan batter on base.
The Lady Cats secured the victory thanks to 11 runs in the second inning. EHS’ big inning was driven by singles by Amber Theriot and Cami Romero, an error on a ball put in play by Aubrey Desormeaux and Rylee Vincent, doubles by Gisclair and Carrington Neveaux and by Desormeaux.

North Vermilion Patriots blows out Winnfield

The North Vermilion Patriots defeated Winnfield 13-1 on Saturday thanks to seven runs in a big third inning.
The win improves NV to 3-0 on the year. They played Loreauville on Monday.
Tanner Trahan, Lane Patin, Hayden Durke, John Touchet, and Dylan Naquin each had RBIs in the third frame.
In the first inning, the Patriots got their offense started when Durke homered on a 0-2 count, scoring two runs.
