Erath wins three-game series with North Vermilion Patriots

LEROY - The Erath Bobcats won two out of three games over the weekend against the North Vermilion Patriots.
After splitting with NV in a doubleheader last Thursday, the Bobcats closed the series with a 5-0 victory.
The Bobcats outhit the Patriots 7-3, and both teams committed two errors.
The Bobcats jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning and then scored one run in the third and fourth innings.
In the second inning, the Patriots committed an error that led to an EHS run. Ashton Alleman hit into a fielder’s choice, and two more runs scored.

VC Eagles rally to beat LCA

The Vermilion Catholic Eagles defeated the Lafayette Christian Academy Knights 5-4 Friday night at Sellers Field.
The game was the rubber match of a three-game series as the two teams split a pair last Thursday at LCA. The Knights won the first game 9-2 and VC (4-3) claimed the second 19-2.
VC head coach Ben Harrington was pleased with his team’s performance. He’s happy the Eagles are finally at full strength as the basketball players are now full-time baseball players.

This weekend, North Vermilion Lady Patriots 'Zoe' hot

YOUNGSVILLE – The North Vermilion Lady Patriots ran their winning streak to nine in a row with three more victories over the weekend.
Zoe Harrington led the Lady Pats (13-1) at the plate with a monster weekend. The sophomore went 8-for-11 with five home runs and 12 RBI in the three games combined. She now has 12 home runs and 26 RBI on the season.
“I feel like I can really see the ball right now,” Harrington said. “I can see what pitches are coming and get good contact. It feels great because everyone is coming together and enjoying the game of softball.”

VC gives West St. Mary a game in first round

The Vermilion Catholic Lady Eagles got 20 points from Jenna Beth Hagle and 16 from Ali Broussard, but it was not enough to help the Lady Eagles beat St. Mary’s in the first round of the playoffs.
St. Mary’s beat VC 54-44 to advance to the second round of the Select Division IV playoffs.
The Lady Eagles made it a game for three periods.
At halftime, St. Mary’s was ahead 25-22. After three quarters, VC was still in the game, 37-33.
Hagle scored seven points in the third frame, including a three-pointer.

Abbeville Lady Wildcats drop first round playoff game

The Abbeville Lady Wildcats fell to the West Feliciana Lady Saints 66-61 in the first round of the Division II Non-Select playoffs Thursday night.
The Lady Cats (17-6) started strong, racing out to a 14-6 lead midway through the opening quarter. Myka Johnson’s jumper in the lane gave Abbeville its biggest lead of the game at 21-12 with 1:28 to play in the first.
That’s when the wheels started to come off for the Lady Cats. D’Jaiyah Levy picked up her third foul and had to exit the game for the remainder of the half.
