New Erath administration holds first meeting

ERATH - The new Erath aldermen and Mayor Taylor Mencacci held their first meeting of the new administration on Monday, and 20 minutes later, the meeting was over.
Each aldermen and mayor wore matching shirts, which was a first. Also, the pledge was said by Erath veteran George Bellis, who is a Marine veteran.
An Erath veteran will be saying the pledge before each meeting, which is also new,
Mayor Mencacci updated the aldermen and residents in the audience what was taking place in the town.

Jonathan Perry sworn in as Judge

Kaplan native Jonathan “J.P.” Perry was recently sworn in as the new judge for the Third Circuit Court of Appeal for the state of Louisiana, by Ulysses Gene Thibodeaux, Chief Judge for the Third Circuit Court of Appeals. On hand for the event were Perry’s wife and children. The Lake Charles-based 3rd Circuit Court of Appeal, 3rd District, Section 4F seat covers all of Vermilion and portions of Acadia and Lafayette Parishes.

Since becoming executive director of the Vermilion Economic Development Alliance (VEDA) in late 2014, Anne Falgout and 15 volunteer members of the board have worked to bring business and growth to Vermilion Parish.
With ‘18 in the review, Falgout spoke last week to members of the Kiwanis Club of Abbeville about some of the things this year has in store. Falgout said meeting with groups like the Kiwanis Club helps create a better view of what the community needs.

French Immersion to be taught at LeBlanc Elementary

The school system, in “The Most Cajun Place on Earth,” has taken a step to keep the French language alive. Beginning with the 2019-2020 school year, Vermilion Parish will be home to the state’s newest French Immersion Education classroom!  
Soon after the Vermilion Parish School Board approved the motion in April of 2018, the curriculum department began the task of determining which school would become “L’école d’immersion française.”
After multiple meetings and numerous conversations, it was decided that the school best suited for French Immersion was LeBlanc Elementary.
